PAOK In Europe 2019-2020

It's proven we have a bad history against Dutch teams and specially Ajax. For that reason I would want to stay away from them. I would not mind meeting them in a groups stage of either CL or EL though where we could fulfill Athen's wishes.

Jesus, the Dutch just won't stay away. Going to be tough, but as always I see us really pushing them. They've lost 2 key players over the summer De Jong and De Ligt.

@Yiankos this one is for you.

I think it is time we stood up to Ajax. The only downside is that I will flying from Vancouver to Chicago on the 13th and may miss the game.

We need to get a result in Toumpa. No excuses.

You're right. We could have our best team ever on the field next month. An epic win at home could show that we truly belong in this tournament.

Worst possible draw. Looking at it realistically I think we will competitive against Ajax, but once again will fall short. Ajax is so much more talented than us. On the bright side, if we do miraculously manage to eliminate them it will be so much sweeter.

In any case we will continue in the Playoff Round of Europa League, where we should be able to qualify to the group stage.

  • 2 weeks later...

On Monday the draw will take place for the play-off for CL at 13:00 EEST.

Champions path

Seeded teams:
PAOK (GRE) / Ajax (NED)
CFR Cluj (ROU) / Celtic (SCO)
Crvena zvezda (SRB) / København (DEN)
GNK Dinamo (CRO) / Ferencváros (HUN)

Unseeded teams:
Young Boys (SUI)
APOEL (CYP) / Qarabağ (AZE)
Slavia Praha (CZE)
Maribor (SVN) / Rosenborg (NOR)

This is in case we win against the “Evreoi”.

If we lose we wil continue in EL. Uefa has divided the teams in two subgroups. We are in group 2 and will avoid Ivic’s Maccabi for instance.

GROUP 2
Seeded (teams eliminated from the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round champions path)
Match 1: APOEL (CYP) / Qarabağ (AZE)
Match 2: PAOK (GRE) / Ajax (NED)
Match 3: Maribor (SVN) / Rosenborg (NOR)

Unseeded (UEFA Europa League third qualifying round champions path winners)
Winner match 1: Sutjeska (MNE) / Linfield (NIR)
Winner match 2: Ludogorets (BUL) / The New Saints (WAL)
Winner match 3: Sarajevo (BIH) / BATE Borisov (BLR)
Winner match 4: Astana (KAZ) / Valletta (MLT)
Winner match 5: Slovan Bratislava (SVK) / Dundalk (IRL)

You might notice that there are more unseeded than seeded teams. This means that from each group two unseeded teams are “lucky” and will draw each other.

Drawing Slavia would be big (as a win would only help the Greek coefficient) but I think if we can somehow beat Ajax, we deserve the easier next draw...give me Maribor/Rosenborg!
