  • Blackhawk changed the title to SL–R23: PAOK - Olympiakos (25 Feb 18, 19:30 EET)

This will be a tough game. They will come in to play their last card (if the 3-point deduction is overturned on appeal).

We have a better team, but in these games anything can happen. We will need to play smart and the fans will also have to be smart supporting the team.

Must win situation even if it is 1:0 in the 95th minute.

We do need to win this, but I'd still say the AEK game is slightly more important. That argument doesn't really matter one way or the other though, as the lineup should be the same regardless:

               --Pashalakis--

--Matos--Varela--Crespo--Vieirinha--

        --Mauricio--Shakhov--

      --Mak--Pelkas--Biseswar--

                 --Prijovic--

I'd be fine with Campos in over Mak as well, but I for one thought Mak was our best player in the first half of the Lamia game, and this is the type of game he's built to exploit.

I agree 100%. Mak was very good on Saturday.

A lot will be determined in this round. AEK is playing at Atromitos and this is probably the only game that they can drop points (other than the PAOK game). Too bad that the game will be played on Monday so they will know the result of our game.

As blackhawk says, the next 4 weeks will determine our title challenge. I'm so pumped that we are in the title race this deep into the season (and leading it!) This is a huge game, AEK scares me more than olympiakos this season but in these games anything can happen. Hopefully our fans are on their best behaviour and the result is determined on the pitch within the 90 mins.

It's a game like this that would surprise me if Lucescu starts Biseswar on the wing. I just think in a game like this where you are going to need your wingers tracking up and down the whole game he probably won't get the nod. Unless he was playing as a dekari (and we know he won't start over Pelkas) So my guess would be Mak on one wing and Djalma on the other, assuming he's fit of course.

Good news, looks like both players should available for full sessions from tomorrow onwards.

Also:

-edit- PAOKTV price confirmed at 3.99 EUR.

Also, we are at a big risk in this game - if any fans do their normal shenanigans, we will play vs AEK behind closed doors.

I think the fans will behave themselves for the most part. What worries me is that Olympiakos players/officials/referees will try to instigate our fans in order to do something stupid. If I was PAE PAOK I would have a camera taping the Olympiakos bench for the full 90 minutes, and also heavy security specially near Gate 4.

Another worrying sign is that they assigned the past Gate7 member Aretopoulos to call the game.

I would bet good money that he's capable already, but they just don't want to exacerbate the sprain. I mean if he played on it last weekend, then it can't be *that* bad. He'll be fine! FINE I TELLS YA!

Now this is interesting: http://inpaok.com/425507/προστατεύουμε-την-τούμπα/

Do we expect them to police themselves?

It's better than nothing I suppose.  I can only hope it's sincere.  The danger of the fans doing something stupid worries me more than losing the game.  Yeah call me paranoid.  But even if we lose we would be only 1 point behind AEK.  If I was Marinakis, I'd be BEGGING for the fans to do something stupid and doing everything possible to incite trouble.

But back to the game itself.  You are right that the AEK game is now more important.  Who would've thought a month ago that this wouldn't be the most important game of the season.  Still, it's a close 2nd.

It will be interesting.  Olympiakos hardly played at all in the 1st round in Athens.  A half chance and a scrappy goal and then they defended for their lives.  All in all, based on form if you were a neutral fan you'd be penning this one down as a victory for us.  We are in solid form and haven't dropped a point at home.  Olympiakos are all over the place.  But derbies are derbies and anything can happen on the day.

The only player of theirs that kind of worries me is Mirallas and that's only because of what he was capable of years ago.  Right now he's a shadow of his former self, but big players rise to the occasion and our full backs like to attack so maybe he'll exploit the space.  Ansirfarad has a certain quality about him also.  The rest I'm not concerned about.

A draw would be an acceptable result and I think overall Lucescu would take a draw.  But a win, and a convincing one at that would be so much better.  All the better to scare the pants off of AEK.

If this ends a draw, there will be a riot. The expectations are very high around this team...

Cool!  +1 point for a draw - 6 points for riot = -5 points.  This would really make the title race interesting!

The Oly appeal at EPO concerning their 3 point deduction was postponed to March 1. The excuse was that the Oly lawyer was busy at the SL hearing concerning PAOK and what ever happened at the Giannina - PAOK game. Subsequently that case was also postponed after Oly requested a detailed report on the damages to the Ginnina stadium, so the charges could be elevated to include points deduction. It will now be heard on March 15th. You realize this is all part of a Oly witch hunt against PAOK to influence Sunday's game and the title race.

Well of course.  How else will they know exactly how many points to deduct ?  Seriously, how hard is it to make a decision lol.  Only in Greece.

I  can’t stand the way they conduct themselves... absolutely no shame what so ever. Maybe that’s a symptom that comes with being seemingly untouchable and corrupt (institutionally and morally) for so long, but they really are a horrible club. It’s smaks of desperation from them as they slip from ‘power’.

With regards to the game, the felling from everyone I have spoken to is that they want a convincing win and to embarrass Olympiacos... nothing else will do.

We MUST assert ourselves from the first min and not show any fear. Play with the mentality of champions and I think we can overwhelm them. We are number one and on Sunday we will show that.

Absolutely right. The fans want to see us play with some swagger, fearlessly. This is as much about punishing Olympiakos as it is solidifying our lead at the top of the table. The distillation of all the emotion that goes into this game, really.
