Many of the bills Trump has signed, such as designating buildings and appointing board members to the Smithsonian, do not have a major, direct impact on Americans, and Trump's 'ambitious' legislative agenda on tax reform and infrastructure is largely stalled. The outlook is also uncertain for the Obamacare repeal bill, which passed the House and is tied up in the Senate.

I was gonna say, he's far from repealing Obamacare.

You know ... his personality and style of presidency ... lot's of talk and hot air, he'd be perfect for Greece.  Fit right in me thinks.

My mistake, I thought that ObamaCare had been scrapped already...the Republicans are trying to get the votes but there seems to be a few of their own that are holding out.

The US had a founding ideal: equality under the law and of opportunity. Falling short of this ideal (and, boy, have we fallen short for so long), is the real disrespect.

For me worshiping the symbols themselves without understanding what they represent is hypocritical. I also don't have to pledge allegiance to the flag or to the anthem itself or even to the president! I support the constitution and ideals upon which this country was founded, such as--life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

Trump was always a snake-oil salesman, bullshitting his way through life, but a successful con artist. This we knew way before he entered politics. He lived in NY so we got to know him very well over the decades. The most surprising thing for me was that he would get so many people to buy into whatever he's saying, because he never had thought about any issue deeply or has good knowledge of it. But, once he got the flag of the Republican party the tribe closed behind him.

I understand why he'd hit a nerve, as you say it, but com'on, at least you'd want a competent, qualified doctor for what ails you.

Trump's continued assault on athletes who rightfully choose to protest social injustices hasn't gone unnoticed by others around the NBA. This year's champs, the Golden State Warriors, declined a visit to the White House and instead, promised to visit the capital to celebrate "equality, diversity and inclusion". Meanwhile, Cleveland Cavaliers star, LeBron James, blasted the President by calling him a "bum". 

Perhaps most disappointing is the fact that the vast majority of pro teams neglected to answer the Washington Post's inquiry. All of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Calgary Flames, and Ottawa Senators did not respond or refused to comment. However, a good handful of NHL organizations did confirm their boycott including the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, and Vancouver Canucks.

I would not allow Trump to define what the national anthem means. It's not about "his country" but about mine too. The flag represents freedom of expression, including the right to protest the flag, the president, the whole damn country if one chooses. And, don't tell me, leave politics out of a sport, because it's already politicized. The Pentagon has given money to the NFL to display patriotism, have jets fly over stadiums, etc.

Before 2009, the national anthem wasn't televised, many players stayed in the locker room, and there wasn't too much fuss about standing, kneeling, or running to the bathroom or buy a hot dog and a beer.

But, that's what Trump does to rally his base. He is not going to help them get better jobs, have health insurance (good coverage), consumer protection, etc. But, he gets involved with an issue for which he has no authority to do anything about, and his supporters say, "yeah, that's my guy!"

All of our intelligence agencies agree that Russia interfered with the last US election and helped Trump. There lots of indications that Trump, his family and businesses, and his campaign have had ties to Russia. This, by the way, will be resolved one way or another. I'm waiting to see what special counsel Muller (former FBI chief) will find.  Of course, Trump may fire him like he fired Comey, but this will be an obstruction of justice offense.

Trump is such an irresponsible person, a dangerous moron, who's totally unqualified for the important job ..Russians helped him get. It beats me why so many people don't see this.

Hmmm, I don't know if I said that....because:

..In a system whereas the checks and balances actually work, I'd say, OK, Congress and the courts could curtail presidential power. But, I don't think this system works today in the US when the same party controls both the executive and legislature. I'm amazed that only 2 Repubs (both retiring) are clearly critical of Trump when others keep mostly mum.

I also know that presidential power is ..powerful, so there's only so much the other 2 branches can do. Presidents can sign executive orders (instructing the bureaucracy), appoint people to important positions, start (not declare, but this is a detail) a war, etc.

A test of the checks and balances will (?) be if Trump fires special counsel Muller or violates the constitution... .let see if a Republican Congress would act.

 

PS>Just yesterday, VP Pence broke a 50-50 tie in the Senate to pass a law that reduces consumer protection, in that if you're screwed by a bank you can't sue!

Special investigator Muller (former FBI chief) will get to the bottom of this. His top deputy was the one that broke up the Italian mafia in NY and put away many gangsters, so he knows how to get people. Obviously one tactic is to get insiders to testify on the big bosses....

One thing for sure so far, there was ..eagerness for a collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians. Trump Jr has admitted so, and he's not the only one.

But, I think there's a bigger story here, besides Trump colluding with a foreign power to win the election, in that I think there are links, like bankrolling the Trump business, money laundering, etc. Trump said he'd release his tax returns after he was elected... We're still waiting... I wonder why he's not doing that when everyone one has...

      Pete Buttigieg caught my eye the other day in a town hall meeting televised on CNN. I thought he was a well spoken young man, with ideas and values that I agreed with. He needs 65, 000 donors to be invited to the Democrats debate. I would like to see him there, so I donated to his campaign.

Divide the country in an effort to conquer. Pitch one group of people against another and start creating a condition that is hostile to people sharing values. Probably now is a good time to break up labor unions also?
      It seems that everywhere one turns, it's a right wing full frontal attack to the voice of the people.

      Online government portal Diavgeia turned out to be one of the most important reforms carried out in Greece over the last few years. A decision by today?s leftist-led coalition government to dismantle the transparency initiative program was based on absolutely unfounded excuses and represents a major setback. The government portal allowed citizens to have access to decisions regarding state recruitments and procurements, the expenditure of public organizations and other interesting information.
      In the absence of Diavgeia, what is more than certain is that the corrupt and the wasteful will once more be able to hide behind a veil of nontransparency. The removal of the transparency portal was no doubt an incomprehensible decision on the part of the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks administration.

      Trump is not the problem; the DNC (i.e. the Democratic National Committee) is.
      When Carter (screwed by OPEC, unpopular thanks to OPEC, and sabotaged by his own party) was defeated in 1978, the Democratic National Committee decided that the plebe that voted Democratic could not be trusted to choose electable candidates. In the future the DNC would choose its own super-delegates who would enable the choice of good candidates.
      In 2016 those who read newspapers read that:
      The super-delegates were 15% of the total. Therefore, if the elected delegates were Sanders 49% and Clinton 36% of the total, Mrs Clinton would have been the Democratic candidate.
      At the New Hampshire’s primary Sanders received 60.4% of the poll vote and Mrs Clinton 38%, of the poll vote. Sanders had 15 voted delegates; Mrs Clinton had 9 elected delegates and 6 superdelegates. Is that possible that the the D in DNC stands for Double-dealing?
      On October 30, 2016, the DNC interim chair Donna Brazile was fired from her position as a political commentator at CNN over e-mail leaks suggesting she had improperly supplied Hillary Clinton’s campaign with advance knowledge of debate-questions.
      Let us move beyond the lady Macbeth aspects of the DNC. How idiotic must one be in order to manage to lose an election against a pathetic bimbo? This demands great talent. Examples:
      α) Trump brags that he will bring the factories back to the USA; the DP claims that the new factories will use robots and the unemployed will remain unemployed.
      β) The DP is all for clean energy. What about the coal-miners in WV? Under the DP plan they will live longer because of cancer avoidance. Moreover, since they will have less money, their life-span will feel even longer.
      γ) In the US the members of every group live, on the average, longer than the previous generation. With one exception; low-class whites. To the best of my limited knowledge, the DP has no plan for them.
      My impression is that Trump is not the problem. The doctor Frankenstein that created him is.

      We had another mass shooting in the US, this time in Las Vegas, the deadliest of its kind, until the next one of course. Our right to be safe is trampled by the right for someone to own military-grade weapons.
      We had hoped that after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, Congress would act to pass some federal gun safety laws. Nothing!  The victims' stories and pictures in Vegas are beginning to circulate now. I'll leave you with the images of the children of Sandy Hook as a horrific reminder that how a political party and its leaders are essentially in the pocket of the gun lobby.

      Yesterday the draw was made for the Copa America that will be held from June 3rd till June 26th in honour of the 100th anniversary of the South American Football Association CONMEBOL.
      16 countries will compete. Chicago and Boston will be amongst the venues.
