Hungary to send 300 border guards to Greece

Recommended Posts

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb?n has said his country and three other Eastern European nations will send 300 border guards to Greece to help stop the massive influx of migrants currently entering Europe.

Speaking at the European migration summit in Valetta, Malta, Mr Orb?n told Hungarian state TV that the so-called ?Visegrad Group? (V4) of nations ? Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia ? were sending the guards ?in the interests of stopping the refugee wave at the southern borders of Greece.?

Although he did not specify exactly what the guards will do in Greece, he did comment on how Greek captains had stemmed the flow when they refused to transport migrants from Greek islands to the mainland.

Mr Orb?n said the European Union (EU) has no will to fight the migrant invasion, and added that a Greek ferry strike last week had been more effective in stopping the migrants than anything European leaders had done, AP reports.

Meanwhile, Mr Orban?s chief of staff, Janos Lazar, he also said that Hungary had approved just two out of 4,848 asylum requests since closing its border with Serbia in September.

As of Sunday, Mr Lazar said, 3,592 requests were still pending, 326 had been rejected and 928 were terminated because the asylum seekers had already move on to another country.

EU and African leaders are meeting in Malta to discuss the ongoing migrant crisis, the worst since the end of the Second World War.

The Hungarian Prime Minister, who has taken an uncompromising stance in securing his country?s borders, has seen his popularity rise thanks to his efforts to stop the migrant flow.

His Fidesz party has seen its polling rating rise by four per cent since the installation of the razor-wire fence, solidifying its core vote and attracting around 300,000 swing voters.

Austria has previously likened Mr Orb?n?s policies to the Nazis, but many Hungarians appear not too worried about such criticism. Margit Tamas, a retired nurse, told Reuters: ?The measures tackling the migration crisis were very positive.?

I guess this is a good thing. Hungary (or at least their government) is one of the few countries to stand up for Europeans against this mass migration.

We don't need Hungarians to protect our borders. They wont be allowed in.

We have Greek army if needed. We won't protect our borders, refugees wont stay, not our problem.

We real Greeks protect our country for 1000's or years against many enemies and now we gonna need hungarians border guards?

XAXAXAXAXAXAXA.

A naive response by an individual that doesn't want to see the bigger picture... Sure the migrants will find other passages to Germany via other countries. How long will that alternative last? What happens when those countries close their borders too? Heck, if Monkeydonia can bar them entry, why can't the others? Why can't we??Suddenly, the European problem will become a Hellenic one because of inaction or utopian ideology... Wake up! Protect Greece's interests and integrity!! Yes it will be difficult to close and protect the borders. However, You do not want to deal with hundreds of thousands of angry refugees lashing out in Greece. This will be a much more difficult situation to deal with...

The Islands are easy to guard actually. 90% of all immigrants only attempt to come through Lesbos or Chios. The Greek coast guard escorts them over. If Greece was serious about borders, you only need to deploy the navy at certain points and that would stop most the immigrants.

^This.

After all, the striking ferries alone did a great job stoping the flow of refugees into the mainland...

It's impossible to stop the refugees. If we guard islands likes Lesbos and Kos, they will chose other Islands to come.
Come on, they rist going from Libia to Italy, you think they won't chose another Island if we close of the routes to Kos and Lesbos?
Thats gonna cost so much money. Left government, right government.... who ever rules... It's impossible to guard this and so expensive.

Greece is not a small country like skopja. They can close that border with a fence it's easy.

For all of yous everything is so easy on paper. You don't have a sense of reality.

USA and their friends Great Britain and Germany created this s%$#!. Let them handle it. Refugees wont stay with us anyway.

The route is established. Lesbos gets roughly 3000 a day because it is established.

Yup.  Of course they can go through Libya but I bet many of them wouldn't take that risk.  In Turkey, these smugglers are making $1500 a person.  People are become rich off of this.
