Greece country coefficient

Recommended Posts

as long as our teams are collecting points...Austria, Denmark, Israel, Romania, Croatia don't worry me...because in essence you cant worry about who is behind you, if you do what needs to be done...

In fact I'd say the way the points table is currently we have a good chance of over taking Swiss and Czechs by end of season..

The European week starts good with Swiss Sion being eliminated by Sudava of Lithuania. Sudava now managed to eliminate three teams in Q1, Q2 and Q3 with a higher coefficient than them (only 1,825). Every seeded club probably will want to draw them in PO.

But I agree with the sheriff. We need to collect points ourselves.

With the Braga - AIK Solna game in extra time we have the following results of the countries from #8 till #17:

Belgium: lost Gent and Oostende; Anderlecht and Zulte Waregem GS; Club Bruges seeded EL.

Ukraine: Olimpik out; Shaktar and Zorya Luhansk GS; Dinamo Kiev seeded EL; Olexandria not seeded El.

Turkey: Galatasaray eliminated already; Besiktas, Istanbul Basaksehir (even if they lose in CL PO) and Konyaspor GS; Fenerbahce seeded EL.

Netherlands: PSV out; Feyenoord and Vitesse GS; Ajax seeded EL; Utrecht unseeded.

Austria: Sturm Graz lost for the Aussies; Austria Wien and RB Salzburg seeded in EL; Altach unseeded in EL.

Czech Republic: Mlada Boleslav and Sparta Prague eliminated; Slavia Prague (even if they lose in CL PO) and Zlin GS; Viktoria Plzen seeded in EL.

Switzerland: Sion and Luzern out; Basel, Young Boys (even if they lose in CL PO) and Lugano in GS.

Greece: Panionios out; Olympiakos GS (CL or EL whatever the result); PAOK seeded EL, Panathinaikos (unfortunately Braga progressed while writing this post) and AEK unseeded in EL.

Croatia: Haven't lost a team yet; Rijeka always in GS after PO CL; Dinamo Zagreb seeded in EL; Hajduk Split and Osijek unseeded.

Denmark: Brøndby and Lingby out; Copenhagen GS no matter what happens); Midjylland seeded in EL.

Not too bad if you ask me. Hope the draw for our EL teams is not to heavy.

however..Croatia may lose all 3 from Europa...

Austria will lose one more...

And I can't see the Czechs, Swiss or Austrians doing much damage in group stages..

Watch out for Salzburg though..

If AEK get through...

I'd back  AEK, PAOK, OSFP collecting more points than the Swiss, Czechs, Austrians from September to February/March..

interestingly on those numbers...The Dutch would have been way back if it was not for Ajax amazing run last year..

correct me if I'm mistaken but don't we need to finish 9th or above in order to guarantee the Greek champion goes directly into the champions league group stage? Wasn't that part of Uefa's shake up in awarding the top 4 (currently spain, Germany, England and Italy) ranking nations 4 direct entries into the champions league group stage? And those extra spots were taken from the countries ranked 10-12?

Here are the new access lists for CL and EL,  paokarag4.

https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/AccessList2018.html

#10 or higher goes directly in GS. Cupwinner also in GS.

#11 might also give access to GS as there is 99% chance that the winner of CL already qualifies for GS CL through the league, especially as the top 4 nations get 4 clubs in GS without qualifying.

First step is to reach #12 to secure the cupwinner in GS EL.

And to answer your last question: the extra spots for the big countries were taken from #11 and #12 but also from the qualifying-spots.

10 countries divide 24 sure entries in GS CL (16 of them for the top 4 countries). The other 45 countries of UEFA have the left-overs: 6 entries .........

if olympiakos gets past rjieka that would bring greece in the 12th place right away since the qualification in the cl group stage guarantees a bonus of 800 points to greece. moreover we should expect olympiakos to win in croatia and paok in sweden which would bring 400 more points. i hope aek finally manages to score a goal and progress to europa league too, but it would be hard as they have livaja and giakoumakis out, mpakasetas is coming off an injury and their only striker is almeida.. but i think they will find their way to el. i'm speechless about panathinaikos thouhg, they blew out such a lead in a very typical manner, now i just hope they will not give up in spain and take at least a draw (don't think it's going to happen though).

from austria, altach is almost out after losing to maccabi at home but austria and red bull are in..viktoria plzen from czech republic has the egde over the cypriot aek but they'll have not to lose with a 2 goal lead in order to get in the group stage. another czech side, slavia, is alsong facing a team from cyprus and they're almost out after losing in cyprus but they have guaranteed at least the europa league group stage. as was pointed above i don't see neither of them making any noise in europe apart from red bull but that wouldn't be enough to save them if from greece, olympiakos paok and aek manage to progress to their respective competitions.

Congratulation to AEK who defeated a strong opponent.  Congratulation also to Ouzounidis and PAO who always had an uphill battle against a very strong Bilbao team coupled with their financial difficulties.  As for PAOK, rezili not only for themselves but for Greece who desperately need the points.

So far not bad for Greece. After the early games in EL today AEK progressed to the knock-out phase.

And even better: Slavia and Zlin (Czech Rep.), Basaksehir, Young Boys, Austria Vienna, Rijeka (Croatia) out of further European games.

The standings after GS CL and EL for the countries in the neighbourhood of Greece:

10 eq Turkey 6.700 6.000 6.600 9.700 6.800 35.800 1/ 5
11 eq Austria 7.800 4.125 3.800 7.375 6.750 29.850 1/ 4
12 up Switzerland 7.200 6.900 5.300 4.300 6.100 29.800 1/ 5
13 dn Netherlands 5.916 6.083 5.750 9.100 2.900 29.749 5
14 dn Czech Republic 8.000 3.875 7.300 5.500 4.500 29.175 1/ 5
15 dn Greece 6.100 6.200 5.400 5.800 4.700 28.200 1/ 5
16 eq Croatia 4.375 6.875 4.500 5.125 5.125 26.000 4
17 eq Denmark 3.800 2.900 5.500 8.500 5.250 25.950 1/ 4

Conclusions so far:

The Netherlands and Croatia have no competitors left and will be stuck on their points tally. All the others have one club left. Turkey can normally only be catched up by the another country if Besiktas is eliminated immediately without gaining any points and that club of the other country wins it all till the final.

In the battle for places #11 to #15 PAOK helped Greece with a 100%-score. And a sure spot in GS (EL if they are eliminated in Q3 or PO, CL if they do the trick). Hope Atromitos and Asteras do their duty to win and progress.

Need to be #15 or higher to have 5 clubs in Europe and our #2 in CL League Path. On the other hand if we are #16 or lower we will have 4 teams in Europe but points will be divided in 4. Usually the fifth spot in Europe goes to the likes of Xanthi, Panionios, Asteras and Atromitos that do not collect (enough) points for Greece.

This is the ranking after Q3 of this season for the battle of the positions 11 to 15.

I added position 10 to show the distance to the spot that is safer for two participants in CL.

The Dutch are very vulnerable now, which is great news. We should be able to gather more points than them this season at least. Good to see Austria down to two teams as well.

Croatia outperforming with that single team. Dynamo Zagreb I'm guessing?

Correct and Dinamo Zagreb are assured of at least a Europa League group stage spot given they are in the play-off round of the Champions league.

So for us to have our league champion go directly into the group stage, we need to be ranked in the top 10?
