Once again the Undersecretary of Sports decided to suspend the season in order to clean up football in Greece. What a joke. It will re-start in couple weeks and everything will be the same as usual.

Piraeus prosecutor Eirini Tziva has charged Olympiakos and Nottingham Forrest owner Evaggelos Marinakis and three additional people with possession, distribution, and financing of a criminal organization concerning the Noor One drug smuggling case. Noor One  is the ship that was intercepted by Greek police and which carries 2.3 tons of heroin. Since that interception 8 witnesses that were held mysteriously died while being held in prison. As part of the indictment, Marinakis is barred from leaving the country, but reports are that he is presently in England.

This news broke about 3 hours ago, and has yet to be reported by the mainstream media in Greece. That is the same media that went into frenzy when Savvidis stepped on the field during the AEK game.

Yet he is in England? Shouldn't have he been present for such a charge?? What will come of this?

Since when do you need to be present anywhere to be charged? You can even be convicted in absentia.

The Marinakis and the 3 tons of heroin case will drag on for years and in the end the charges will be dropped. This case involves people at high level including politicians and media owners. With all these scandals in Greece in the past have you ever seen any of those people go to jail?

Looks like Superleague will resume this weekend. What remains is 5 rounds of football to decide who will win the "paper title" this season.

In other news there was a vote at Superleague to change the rules concerning teams that do not get a license for next season. As it currently stands the team that does not get a license is relegated to Football League. The vote today tried to change the rule in the middle of the season to allow the teams to avoid relegation. This was broaught up before the league by AEK and was supposedly a move to save Panathinaikos from being relegated. In order for the measure to pass it had to pass by a 3/4 margin. The vote was 7:6 in favor of changing the rule and did not pass.

I feel for AEK fans when they got screwed by this in 2006-07. Greek Championships should never be determined on paper. No wonder fans from all of Greece not Olympiakos fans are chanting "Thryle Gera Parta Sta Xartia".

Exactly Eagle. The rules in the books call for relegation. Same rules applied to Iraklis last season. All of a sudden AEK wanted to change the rules in mid-season. Sure AEK and Olympiakos voted for the change.  POK united since 1929. What a joke.

AEK and Olympiakos voted for a change,  PAOK no.  I guess PAOK is anti Athens.  That being said this had to do with T.V. revenues....and the smaller clubs will suffer if PAO is relegated.   Looks like PAOK wants to go at it with Athens....not a smart move.

Interestingly, maybe this could force Alafouzos's hand ?  Maybe Giannakopoulos will get the club sooner than you think ?

Superleague resumes this weekend. Like if nothing has happened. All the problems were solved during this time and we will see a top notch competition from now on.

Can someone tell me what the table standings in the Superleague are right now?

What a joke.

The kseftila in Superleague continues. The teams that called an emergency meeting in order to pass a measure to save Panathinaikos from relegation decided to stay away from the meeting after they realized that they will not have enough votes to pass the measure.

Who's going to give them a TV contract? As it stands 6 teams will be without one,  meaning they themselves will not be able to file the full requirements for a license to play next season.   In my opinion the league should look into going with a 10 team league,  each team playing against each other 4 times.  This format will increase the revenues in many ways.  One would be increases from dividing the revenues with fewer teams,  and more meaningful games will increase gate revenues.  Also 5 teams less would raise the talent on the field.

While we have your attention, if PAO gets relegated to B Ethniki, does this affect Alafouzos's debts in any way ?  Just wondering what game he's playing.

AS Roma started selling tickets online for the CL semifinal game Roma - Liverpool. The only problem was that the draw for the semifinals of CL has not taken place when they started selling the tickets. They went on sale 2 hours before the draw was made.

There are two possible answers:

- the UEFA draws are fixed
- Roma officials made a lucky guess

I think I'll go with the first answer.
