Orestis Karnezis ‒ (Retired)

Gomes had a back spasm apparently.
Watford lost 2-0, one of the goals was a penalty conceded by a watford defender. he might be a little disappointed with the 2nd goal he copped. mahrez was on a tight angle and still managed to slot it past him, it was a pretty good finish though.

Apart from that he looked okay, made a few routine saves. Unfortunately for him he'll be back on the bench as soon as Gomes is fit again

Karnezis in goal for Watford in it’s away EPL match overnight again Stoke City. Full-time 0-0. It’s funny how quiet we are when he has a good match or keeps a clean sheet but when he has one occasional bad match the whole world is reminded on this site.

I think it is more that he is at his prime age as a keeper and he is a #2 with starts few and far-between. Until he plays regularly at Watford or goes to a club where he is a #1, how much can one say about him?

  • Argy changed the title to Orestis Karnezis ‒ Watford F.C.

Karnezis started again as Watford won 4-1 versus Chelsea. He conceded a penalty of Eden Hazard.

To Brklyngrk: He wasnt that bad against Croatia. Only the first goal was partly his fault (and partly that of Tzavellas). He was then rendered helpless by his defenders before the second, the third and especially the fourth goal when Stafylidis assisted literally one of the Croatians and he had a string of fine saves. Actually he was one of our better performers IMO.

Question to all:

Was the Watford v Chelsea match on 5 February 2018 the first time that two Greek footballers were in the starting lineup of a English Premier League match?

There probably was two or three having started for Sheffield United in the English League Championship back in the late 90’s & not sure if Angelos Basinas & Kostas Chalkias ever started in the same match for Portsmouth?

Defense was such a mess vs Croatia its hard to fault him, he was completely exposed. Skibbe spinelessly opting to start Maniatis over Retsos at RB was a massive error.

Bad couple of weeks for Watford and himself against some of the bigger sides. 3-0 loss to Arsenal last week, 5-0 loss over night at Liverpool. Was at fault for Arsenal's 3rd last week, was a bit of a howler.

Not hugely at fault for any of the 5 today, but there's one or 2 where you think a really really good keeper might make a save or do better. In saying that, he made 2-3 pretty solid stops as well.

Interesting to see if he retains his spot after the international break.

yeah hard to say if he keeps his starting position after that. despite the score line didn'tplay terribly. 10 shots on goal... that's a lot

salah hat trick on him and we're facing egypt. let's hope our defense does a better job...

So this came pretty much out of left field: Karnezis is set for a medical at Napoli tomorrow. Wonderful move for him and Greek pedigree in Europe. The bigger the team, however, the tougher it will be to earn playing time and a starting job. If he signs there and plays, this will be great for the NT as well.
