Phantis Forum - Who we are   03/13/2017

For 20 years now, Phantis is a service offered to people of Greek descent and to anyone interested in news, information, and topics that pertain to the greater concept of Hellenism. The Phantis Forums are a private media platform, where guests and members are invited to join free of charge a civil conversation, and become part of a polity of concerned citizens, mature sports fans, and casual readers who may want to connect with Hellenes of the diaspora. As you may know, Phantis is based in the USA, and for obvious reasons, these are not normal times any longer. The political debate has gone way beyond the acceptable civil engagement norms, therefore, we cannot, in good conscience, sit idly on the sidelines. We feel it’s our duty to champion civil rights & civil liberties, the US constitution and our democratic institutions, to promote science and education, protect the environment, and enhance tolerance and diversity. In this spirit, we have chosen to actively fight racism, bigotry, and the politics of fear, conspiracy theories, fake news and “alternative facts.”  We believe in free speech, but this does not mean that we are under any obligation to give a free platform to those who promote anything that’s contrary to our values and mission statement. Editorial and quality control will be applied to the discussion forums, as is practiced in other parts of the Phantis site. The ownership and management of Phantis want to thank the countless past and present members who contributed to the quality of this site over the past two decades, to welcome new members who share our principles. We look to the future with excitement while we realize the defense for the ideals of the Enlightenment is more imperative these days. Thank you for being part of the effort to offer quality services to people of Greek descent worldwide. Lazarus Sismanis and the Phantis Forum team

RTL Group to exit Greek broadcasting market

RTL Group announced that it will sell its 70 per cent majority shareholding in Alpha Media Group to the Greek entrepreneur Dimitris Contominas.

The transaction is subject to approval by the Greek Competition Commission and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2012. As Mr Contominas currently owns a minority stake of 30 per cent in Alpha Media Group, he will become again the sole owner of the company, while the current management will continue to be involved in the operating management of the channel.

Gerhard Zeiler, CEO of RTL Group, says: “Given the heavy and on-going economic and financial crisis in Greece, we have eventually decided to exit the Greek market. While we cannot influence the overall market development, our local management team led by CEO Christoph Mainusch, together with Alpha

I am not sure that anything will change because of this. Before RTL Alpha shows / series were well below par compare to ones from MEGA or even ANT1 when ANT1 was still producing greek series.

Sad but true, same actors different channel makes a big difference.

Now that Kontominas has control over Alpha, there is good chance that Alpha will be moving from Dish Network to Home2US.

Interesting, I have seen you mention it before too. How long of a contract did they sign with Dish Network? It has been on Dish for only a year now.

On a related note about Alpha's future, there is a lot of talk that Alpha will be changing its news operations. I have read Giannis Papagiannis is headed toward Alpha, having just left Extra 3. (Akis Pavlopoulos is replacing him at Extra 3) Then other reports also mention Lakis Lazopoulos having some type of role.
