Omonoia-Nea Salamina

Great result for Salamina. They don't have much individual talent but they are looking decent this season. They have a good manager in Stephen Constantine. He used to play for Millwill (he's a english-cypriot) and has done very well in the most random of places. He's managed the Nepalese national team and became their most successful ever coach, winning a silver medal in the South Asian Games. He achieved great heights with India too, he won the LG Cup and got a silver medal in the Afro-Asian Games and got an Asia coach of the month award in 2003. That's impressive considering that many other coaches have more prestigious sides like Japan, S.Korea, China, etc. Finally he took charge of Malawi and led them to winning 3 matches in a row, the first time they'd done this in their history, and against teams ranked much higher than them.

Now he's been promoted with Salamina (after they had a tought start to the season last year) and is currently 6th in the league. Apollon approached him but apparently couldn't agree personal terms. So he might be one to watch for the future. It's difficult for a manager to make a name for himself when he hasn't had a glittering career as a player. Even in smaller leagues like the Cypriot it's easier for the likes of former big-name players, like Ketsbaia and Jordi Cryuff (now at AEK Larnaca) to get the jobs, whereas guys like Constantine have to start from the bottom and work their way up. He's doing well.

As for Salamina, they are left wing but aren't allies with Omonia, as far as i'm aware historically there's a bit of a rivalry between them, in the same way that Anorthosis and APOEL aren't allies.

I have cousins that are Salamina fans, and all my Omonoia cousins root for Salamina when we're not playing them.
