Nikos Nioplias

Euro2004

Recommended Posts

Nikos Nioplias has taken over as the new manager of the Cyprus NT!

Nioblias was great with the u21s and has been searching for a job since leaving PAO last season. He's taking over a difficult job because for years Cyprus punched above their weight and were unlucky not to make it to Euro 2000. Anastasiadis' reign has also seen some fantastic highs but the Cypriot NT has been in steady decline since drawing 4-4 away at Portugal in the opening game of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

Cyprus have really struggled and it's certainly time for a new era. With many of the stars of this golden generation reaching the twilight of their careers, like Okkas and Konstantinou. Cyrpus were never great defensively, the team has always been very positive in their approach even against the likes of Spain, Germany and France. However their underrated fire power always made them dangerous. With those attacking players aging now though it leaves Cyprus with a weak defence and without the potent attacking line up it once had. So Nioblias faces a huge challenge. Let's hope it all goes well.
