Shall anyone contact NOVA to ask for the legitimacy of Ellastv transmissions?  Shall anyone contact RIK to ask how they ended up being used to offer a mask of legitimacy to crooks?
ttentelh
Hellas I understand what you are saying, maybe the person you talked to was just a sales person that doesnt have answers to many technical aspects that you asked. Also I will add that may not be professional at all in the way he communicated with you. If one person is found not professional does it mean that everybody is the same? Do you think that dishnetwork or direct tv have all professional employees? Is dishnetwork unprofessional company because someone may be? Anyway I will be happy to answer any of your questions you may have. So far the service is excellent and am very happy about it, I wish some of you try it. By the way they are adding more channels from the rest of greece such as MAD World, Pelopponisos, 4E thessaloniki. You will be impressed of the quality of the picture. Liski
UNAUTHORISED USE OF MEGA COSMOS, ALTER GLOBE, STAR INTERNATIONAL, MAD WORLD, RIK SAT UBI holds the exclusive right to distribute many Greek channels in Australia and New Zealand including Mega Cosmos, Alter Globe, Star International, Mad World and Rik Sat and all their content. These distribution rights include all modes of delivery, including IPTV. Any broadcast of these channels by third parties amounts to an infringement of our rights, which we will take action to prevent.

ANY QUESTIONS JUST CALL THANK YOU ELLAS TV TECHNICAL SUPPORT Yep, do call. Call Mega Cosmos for instance--you will find out what Ellas TV doesn't want you to know. You can't close this discussion because 1) you are not a moderator 2) you didn't open it 3) you never really took part in it. No questions about the legal status of the service have been answered--you simply made claims with no support. So if you thought this was just a forum for you to come and find people to exploit, and make false claims like "Mega Cosmos and Alter Globe are moving to your platform" you got it very wrong. PAPUYANNI
Hello Friends, “If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience?” George Bernard Shaw History repeated itself many times with Greek satellite programming providers in the USA; enough times for us the Greek consumers to learn a lesson. Regrettably, including myself, we did not listen and we did not learn. Every time we fell into the trap and only aggravated ourselves and wasted our valuable time and money. Simply it all boils down to; "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Without taking any credit away from other members who always diligently try to update us, Harlem Reporter presented an excellent Greek saying that summerized the whole situation: "Kai i (Home2US) milonou ton andra tis me tous pramateftades (Directv, Dish)." And on that note I have to say: “Mia tou klefti, dyo tou klefti, treis kai tin kaki tou mera” I am fully aware that Cablevision and Verizon Fios TV are not any different from Dish or DirectTV in their business practices and customer service, as all of them have an equally vast amount of “valid” complaints across the country. But for my two cents, Cablevision is offering MEGA and ANT1 and Verizon Fios TV offering ANT1 only with the verbal promise that Verizon soon will be adding at least one more Greek channel. It remains to be seen. As for me, with the new technology, I rather invest the money for an internet ready TV and enjoy the plethora of Greek entertainment available over the internet, rather than becoming a sucker one more time for the pleasure of HOME2US or anyone else for that matter. Regarding the ‘Greek Media Group’ they are not even worth dignifying them with negative comments, and as far as MEGA is concerned, they should allow their program streaming over the internet, perhaps even for a fee, instead of blocking it in the USA by saying: “We’re sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed within Greece”. HELLOOOOOO!!! KOUTHOURAKIA OF MEGA!!! TV is free in Greece, at least for the Greek channels. We are paying to receive your channel and what you provide? Couple of new shows, advertised to start in September but they don’t start until November, and then after a month or two you either drop them altogether without any explanation and start broadcasting repeat episodes or broadcast old shows over and over again. You must wake up and realize that you are killing the goose that lays the golden egg for MEGA. Lastly, I have to make one final confession; my first wife left me when Dish Network dropped Mega and she lost her episodes of ‘Vera Sto Deksi’. My second wife is leaving me now because DirectTV dropping Mega and she is loosing ‘Ta Mystika Tis Edem’. I am mad as hell, and I am not gonna take it anymore. My third wife has to sign a contract promising that she will not get emotionally involved with Greek soap operas. And please, don’t anyone make a suggestion to find a non-Greek wife. (Just kidding) Again, my sincere thanks to all the members and wish you all KALO PASXA
ttentelh
HellasTV is broadcasting Mega Cosmos under their platform. For some reason they increased the price of their box to $254 from 220 plus 14 shipping that used to be. Anyone from Hellas Tv can explain why this increase in such a short time. Pricing should be going down not up as you sell more. Simple economics. Edited April 1, 2011 by ttentelh

I guess they are really eager to make some money off these boxes before someone blows the whistle on them about stealing that signal and their whole operation is shut down. OSFP18
I think it’s interesting that they are a Comcast Authorized Dealer since Comcast led the way towards data usage caps. I was going to put this post in the IPTV slot but here I go anyway. I talked to Netflix and MLB.tv to get an idea on how much data Ellas tv and other similar IPTV add-ons use. I was told that SD streams are around 1Gig per hour and HD streams can reach 2.3 Gigs per hour. This means that if you watch 3 hours of SD on Ellas tv per day and catch 2 soccer games in HD during the week, you have already used up 52% of your allocated bandwidth for upper tier packages and 87% for lower tier and DSL packages. Add on some Netflix, Youtube, online gaming and you’ll have some extra surcharges coming at you. Maybe that’s why Comcast has chosen Ellas to be an Authorized Dealer. Grk101
If we are talking Comcast, since 2008 Comcast has a 250 GB cap on ALL residential internet accounts, no exceptions. If you pass it, you get notified with a warning. If you pass it again within 6 months of the first time, they can terminate your service and you will not be eligible to get service with them again for at least a year. More on that here: https://customer.comcast.com/Pages/HelpNFC....lse&id=aup-lite Each ISP has their own cap limits and terms though, but expect ALL ISPs to implement caps sooner rather than later, that's how the industry works. There is also the question if some ISPs will start throttling IPTV (if they already haven't started) like they have been accused of doing with torrents and online gaming over the years since IPTV and online streaming also using a good chunk of bandwidth. See more on throttling here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_throttling and http://www.pcworld.com/article/158552/is_y...connection.html IPTV may be OK for some people, especially those that only watch TV a few hours a day or do not have caps (yet), but I do not see IPTV as a viable option for the older folks who love to have their TV on all day, those who want more than one receiver, or those who like to do other things on the net as well. (Netflix, youtube, gaming, torrents, etc) What is interesting with EllasTV's situation, is that they seem to be going with the "have it all" sales approach which is unrealistic in my opinion. Someone who actually cares to have all the channels available from Greece would probably spend a good portion of the day watching them and would easily go over their bandwidth cap. If you factor in HD sports viewing it is even worse. All this is not even factoring in the obvious legality issues of this service too. ttentelh
I have netflix streaming and DSL from verizon for many years, for the past month am using Ellas Tv I never had any issues of going over bandwidth cap as you mention and I never heard of anyone being terminated of the contract because of over usage of internet speed. I dont know under what circumstances the cable company or verizon will drop your service for over useing it. Grk101
Correct, Verizon does not have any bandwidth caps yet. Grk101
Probably until Hollywood finds out and enforces their content control. The only way the Greek channels will really step it up is if they are pressured by an outside party to take action IMO. (like the content distributors pressuring them to enforce their Greece only rights) ANT1 seem to be the only ones that really go after misuse of their content, but this service does a good job of hiding the fact that they even offer ANT1.....
