Euro2004
Are there any other boxing fans here? I know a few comment on our fighters (i.e. Katsidis) but are there others here who follow the sport more generally? If so it would be good to get a board on boxing going. There's a big fight tonight Shane Mosley vs Ricardo Mayorga. If Mosley wins this light middle weight contest he could be in line for a title shot against Marquez. Any one care to predict or comment on tonight's fight?
DUDE
Hi Euro2004. I'm a boxing fan and I did see the fight last night. Unbelievable finish!! For those that didn't see it, Mayorga was winning on points and on 2 mins and 59 secs (1 sec before the end of the bout) Mosley knocked him out! :o I think it may have been a fix though to be honest. The Nicuraguian made no attempt to move, hold or even keep his hands up after the first knock down. It looked a little dodgy to me. After the fight there was talk of Mosley fighting Andre Berto but that would be a step too far for an aging Mosley. Instead I'd like to see Berto fight Hatton. Of course for that to happen Hatton will have to beat Mallignagi and I'm not convinced that will happen. Either way boxing's getting exciting again! BlueStriker
Good fight. I thought someone was getting knocked down in the 7th or 8th round after they started slugging it out in the 6th. It didn't happen and it looked like it was going to the judges decision. I've never seen someone get knockd out with one second left, that was amazing! :o My favorite boxers to watch at the moment are Wladimir Klitschko and Kelly Pavlik. There's also a guy Sultan Ibragimov who amazes me simply because he looks like a flabby out of shape amateur in his appearance. I watched him fight Shannon Briggs last year who looked like a giant standing next to him. Here are some from the match.
Euro2004
Great to see that there are other boxing fans here. DUDE i don't think it was a fix, i just think mayorga is a moron. @ Blue Striker: Pavlik is certainly exciting, i'd love to see him fight Carl Froch: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=14KX_m5Vrjo&...feature=related or Joe Calzaghe Also, forget Ibragimov, if you like big clumsy, amateur fighters forget Ibragimov, look no further than the 7ft Neanderthal Nikolay Valuev! He's got no boxing skills whatsoever but he's just too big to defeat! Check out this video of one of his fights, it looks like a comedy movie! lol http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t-EEH4p9_Pg As for Wlad Klitschko, he's good but his chin is a bit suspect i think. I prefer his brother Vitali (the one who battered Lewis but was stopped on a cut).

Valuev isn't an amateur, he's a heavyweight champ, he has a belt.I can't wait to see David Haye get dropped by these guys.
DUDE
Vitali Klitschko made a successful return after a 4 year absence by stopping "The Nigerian Nightmare" Samuel Peter. Peter failed to come out of his corner for the 9th round handing the Ukranian the WBC heavyweight title. It's the first time ever that two siblings (Vitali and Wladimir) have simultaneously held heavyweight titles. In the other big fight of the night, Chad Dawson beat Antonio Tarver comprehensively on points, also knocking him down in the process. The win made Dawson the undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world.
BlueStriker
Anyone watching Hopkins vs. Pavlik Oct. 18th? It's on HBO PPV. I remember watching Pavlik in a fight (forgot who he was fighting) before he became popular, and after one round I said to myself, "Wow, this guy is good" :nw:

I remember watching Pavlik in a fight (forgot who he was fighting) before he became popular, and after one round I said to myself, "Wow, this guy is good" :nw: Should be a very interesting fight. The aggressive fighter that likes to come forward (Pavlik) against the awkward and experienced counter-puncher (Hopkins). If Hopkins was in his prime I'd bet on him to deal with Pavlik but now Pavlik probably has a slight edge. Imo this will be similar to the Calzaghe vs Hopkins fight where Hopkins used his experience and technique to land the better quality stuff, but Calzaghe outworked him by throwing so many punches more.Whatever happens it will be a wonderful tactical contest. Euro2004
Hi guys. Just to let you know, there are two London born Greek Cypriot boxers that are brothers and highly rated. There's the younger brother, Chris "The Flash" Evangelou is a light welterweight, who has just one defeat (and it was very controversial. Every pundit, fans, former fighter etc, said he won that fight. So it was hugely controversial. You can see the controversial defeat here: His brother is Andreas "ACE" Evangelou is a light heavyweight and is still undefeated. I interviewed Andreas just over a week so if you fancy a listen check it out here: Read the article Listen to the podcast They are both in action this Saturday at the London Olimpia. It will be televised on Sky Sports
