Argonut
[YOUTUBE] I would like to wish the team good luck in the tournament. Here in Canada we have a lot of Greek Canadian kids that are very good hockey players. That in the future could really help the Greek national Team to be a power in probabley the C division or maybe one day even maybe make it to the B world championships. It would really help if they can get a few rinks in Greece lets start with one since we have not had one for a few years. I know that a few years back they had a tournament with a team from Ottawa and one from I think it was the Boston area and the Greek National team in Greece. That would be good to do again and try and get as many players from North America and Europe that are able to play for Greece and see what talent there is out there. Anyways enough said on this Good Luck Boys go and kick some butt.   :gr: :gr:
athinaios
Well do you think this sport would attract fans in Greece? It's a big investment to build hockey arenas (I imagine, I don't know).
Argonut
I do not know how much fan interest there would be in Greece for Ice Hockey. If the big clubs get involved then there will be I think enough fan interest. But does Greek hockey really want these fans there if they are going to fight and make damage to the Arena's. As it does cost a lot of money to build and keep arena's running and in good shape. If Greek hockey can keep the holigans away then it really would be great for the sport in Greece to try and get the big clubs involved in Hockey. :gr: :gr: :gr: PS Good Luck Guy's in the Tournament. athinaios
Not to take away anything from this sport (or any other), but do you think a small country of 11 million could realistically have a big enough market for several professional leagues and hundreds of teams? I'm just curious.
paxiotis7
Greece lose 5-1 to south africa... The National Team lost its first game 5 -1 at the World Championship. The biggest upset though was Igor Apostolidis' injury at the 2 minute mark of the opening period. He was hit with a puck in the face causing a double fracture above and below his eye. Unfortunately the National Team has lost Igor for the rest of the tournament. Despite the setback, the Greek team kept on fighting and was in the game until the middle of the third period when the score was 2-1 in favor of the South Africans. A tragic mistake on the Greek power-play gave the South Africans a short handed goal taking the hopes of a Greek comeback. The game finally ended 5-1. The National Teams' goal was scored by Dimitris Kalyvas who was also chosen as the MVP of the Greek Team. Bring on mongolia! :box: :D Btw mongolia got thrashed in their first game 17-0 to korea

I'm just curious. absolutley not. Greece might get a league one day, but Id say at least 15 - 20 years from now....And it would still be very low quality. Greece isnt a wintersport country. Ice Hockey isnt for Greece, its just not compatible to where we live and our culture...People might enjoy watching it, but playing it on youth and professional level isnt realistic. Unless they make an NHL Europe and bring Athens a team (doubtful) and fill it with Russians/Czechs/Scandinavian players... (sort of like bringing NHL teams to Texas, Atlanta, California, Florida) But thats extremely unlikely, and I hope it doesnt happen. Leave the hockey to the Greek Canadians and Greek New Englanders, Greek Swedes and Greek Czechs/Russians.... Ice hockey is incredibly expensive sport to play at youth level, from equipment, to creating artificial rinks (in such a warm country wouldnt be too easy) and maintaing them throughout the country... paxiotis7
Greece wins 10-4! :gr: First win for the National Team 10-4 against Mongolia. The National Team started the game in an uptight manner and only had an unexpected 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. The Team managed to regroup in the beginning of the second period, which led to a 5 goal outburst led by D.Kayvas who scored all five goals and put the Greek team back into proper rhythm and a 7-2 lead entering the 3rd period. The game ended 10-4 with the final goal tally; an amazing 8 goals from Dimiris Kalyvas and 2 goals from Ioannis Koufis. The assists tally was as follows: 4 from Giorgios Kalyvas, 3 from Ioannis Koufis, 2 from Panagiotis Iatridis and 1 each from Kostas Lembesis and Dimitris Kalyvas. The player of the game award went to a very deserving Dimitris Kalyvas. :gr: :gr: :gr: also south africa beat turkey 7-1 today and are on a roll. It looks like south africa are a good team and its good to get them out of the way.

The final score was 7-3 for North Korea keeping them in the first spot on the Board. The goal scorers of the Greek team were as follows: Iason Pachos, Dimitris Kalyvas and Ioannis Koufis. The assists came from: 2 from Nicholas Papadopoulos, 1 from Alexandros Valsamas-Rallis, Orestis Tilios, Dimitris Kalyvas and Ioannis Koufis. Orestis Tilios was chosen as the MVP of the Greek Team. vs turkey ---9-1 loss The Greek team had its worst game, since the beginning of the tournament, with no excuses last night and lost 9-1 against Turkey. The Greek Team was not able to win despite the 500 Greek fans that travelled from all over Europe to support the team. The only goal by the National Team was scored by Thanasis Kesidis assisted by Nikos Papadopoulos. George Fiotakis was chosen as the MVP of the Greek Team
