plato-ny
Looks like Greece will be in pot 2 for the next World Cup qualification as expected. WCQ Draw November 25, 2007 - Europe 8 groups of 6 and 1 of 5 Top 9 automtically qualify + 8 of 9 2nd palce teams face of 4 vs. 4 for last 4 spots. These are the latest UEFA coefficients for national teams, which will determine the pots used for drawing the World Cup qualifying groups in November. All the latest results are included. This is determined by the average number of points from games in Euro 2008 qualifying plus World Cup 2006 qualifying. First tiebreaker is PPG from the most recent competition, then average goal differential. Italy is seeded first due to their World Cup championship. I'm assuming that Montenegro will be put in the bottom pot like Kazakhstan was in 2006. There will be 9 groups for WCQ, so the first 9 teams will comprise the first pot. There are only a few more games for each team, so there won't be huge changes from here on out. Still, there's plenty of drama for teams on the verge of moving up or down a pot, especially for that top pot. It looks like there are 6 teams fighting for the last 3 spots in the first pot. CURRENT POTS Pot 1: Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Croatia, Sweden, England, Romania, Czech, Poland Pot 2: Portugal, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Norway Pot 3: Israel, Denmark, Switzerland, Scotland, Bulgaria, Ireland, Slovakia, Bosnia, Finland Pot 4: Austria, N.Ireland, Hungary, Slovenia, Belgium, Albania, Lithuania, Latvia, Wales Pot 5: Estonia, Belarus, FYROM, Georgia, Cyprus, Armenia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova Pot 6: Azerbaijan, Malta, Kazakhstan, Andorra, Faroe Islands, Luxembourgh, San Marino, Montenegro RANKING Overall Games Points Pot 1 1 Italy 2.263 19 43 2 Germany 2.750 8 22 3 Netherlands 2.600 20 52 4 Croatia 2.474 19 47 5 Sweden 2.389 18 43 6 England 2.368 19 45 7 Romania 2.250 20 45 8 Czech 2.238 21 47 9 Poland 2.143 21 45 Pot 2 10 Portugal 2.136 22 47 11 Spain 2.053 19 39 12 France 2.053 19 39 13 Greece 2.000 20 40 14 Turkey 2.000 20 40 15 Russia 1.952 21 41 16 Ukraine 1.900 20 38 17 Serbia 1.900 20 38 18 Norway 1.842 19 35 Pot 3 19 Israel 1.842 19 35 20 Denmark 1.800 20 36 21 Switzerland 1.800 10 18 22 Scotland 1.789 19 34 23 Bulgaria 1.737 19 33 24 Ireland 1.632 19 31 25 Slovakia 1.571 21 33 26 Bosnia 1.526 19 29 27 Finland 1.522 23 35 Pot 4 28 Austria 1.500 10 15 29 N.Ireland 1.316 19 25 30 Hungary 1.211 19 23 31 Slovenia 1.158 19 22 32 Belgium 1.150 20 23 33 Albania 1.100 20 22 34 Lithuania 1.053 19 20 35 Latvia 1.050 20 21 36 Wales 1.000 18 18 Pot 5 37 Estonia 0.955 22 21 38 Belarus 0.895 19 17 39 FYROM 0.810 21 17 40 Georgia 0.810 21 17 41 Cyprus 0.778 18 14 42 Armenia 0.750 20 15 43 Iceland 0.632 19 12 44 Liechtenstein 0.571 21 12 45 Moldova 0.526 19 10 Pot 6 46 Azerbaijan 0.444 18 8 47 Malta 0.444 18 8 48 Kazakhstan 0.364 22 8 49 Andorra 0.238 21 5 50 Faroe Islands 0.053 19 1 51 Luxembourg 0.000 21 0 52 San Marino 0.000 19 0 53 Montenegro xxx xxx xxx

Guest geok
I am pleased to see Greece in the second pot for the first time ever. At last we have a good chance for qualifying for this world cup. Lets hope that we will remain one of the established good European teams, now and in the future. If we get Poland, Romania or the Czech Republic from the first group, we have a good chance of qualifying automatically!!! But this is very much into the future, first, lets win again EURO 2008!!!! :gr:

Genome
The procedure for the UEFA EURO 2008™ final tournament draw in Lucerne, Switzerland, on 2 December was approved by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Istanbul today. Holders Greece Consequently, hosts Switzerland and Austria will be placed in groups A1 and B1 respectively. The other 14 nations will be split into four pots. Pot 1 will comprise the reigning European champions Greece if they qualify, as well as the team with the highest coefficient. The other countries will then be placed in the three remaining pots based on the coefficient obtained in the qualifying competition for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and for this EURO. The event will take place at the Konzert und Kongresszentrum in Lucerne, starting at 12.00CET. Durban draw The UEFA Executive Committee also decided that the draw for the European qualifying competition for the 2010 World Cup – to take place in Durban, South Africa, on 25 November – would be based on FIFA national team rankings. In accordance with the decision at its meeting in Heerenveen, Netherlands, in June, the format for the European qualifiers will be eight groups of six teams, and one group of five. The nine group winners will qualify directly, with the best eight runners-up featuring in home and away play-off matches for the remaining four places. Source. loup
IS this true????? Seeding After initially proposing to use a similar system to recent World Cup and European Championship qualification (based on results across the previous two European qualification cycles), the UEFA Executive Committee decided on 27 September 2007 at its meeting in Istanbul that seeding for the qualifiers would be based on FIFA World Rankings, in accordance with the FIFA World Cup regulations (which note that where teams are ranked on "performance" criteria, the FIFA World Rankings must be used).[1] The FIFA World Ranking used for seeding will be the most recent at the time of the preliminary draw, namely the November edition. Initially scheduled for 21 November, the release date was moved to 23 November to include the final match days of Euro2008 qualification[2]. loup
Current rankings- after October 3 1 Italy 1387 -2 -101 4 2 France 1271 2 51 5 3 Germany 1245 -1 -85 6 4 Spain 1226 1 48 7 5 Netherlands 1207 -2 -39 8 6 Portugal 1203 0 34 9 7 Czech Republic 1174 2 92 10 8 Croatia 1155 0 4 11 9 England 1137 -2 -28 12 10 Romania 1086 0 49 13 11 Scotland 1049 1 24 14 12 Greece 1034 1 94 top 9 get a 1 seed for WC qualifying from sept - oct we gained 94 FIFA points based on a win v BH and a win vs turkey - so we beat Malta - ranked slightly ahead of the Vatican City team and even if we beat Hungary #48 - how many pints will we gain ???????? I have no idea -30 ? 40? let me try to work something out: last month - here is what happened for us Match Type Pts 17/10 TUR 0:1 (0:0) GRE Continental Qualifier 1342.50 13/10 GRE 3:2 (1:0) BIH Continental Qualifier 1207.50 Hungary is ranked near BH so we get 1200 points for beating them- and Moldova got 540 points for beating Malta last month so we get 1750 points or so, instead of the 2550 - roughly 70% of the raw points so we get approx 65 FIFA points so we move up to 1100 points - past a slumping romania and a down-and-out Scotland so best guess - with the Croats losing today , I really think if we win vs Hungary that we will pass the loser of the Croat - England match - I've made a lot of assumptions here And I have no idea what happens if there is a draw in the England match but WOW - we have a chance for a 1 seed
