Suggested Call Ups, Starting 11
Rockafeller Skank replied to Original 21's topic in Greek National Teams
This is not the post meant for such discussion but this team's ταβάνι is the 3rd place and a very good run which depends on the group will be the 2nd place. We have no hopes to qualify for the next WC and if you look the next games hoping we will you will just be dissappointed. The aim for this qualification is for our NT to grab some points, remain 3rd pot and maybe get some better ranking to secure 3rd pot for a while and see us be able to play the damn ball vs both minor nations (like Kosovo and Slovenia) but also look competitive with better Nations like Austria, Romania , Czechia , Russia, Ukraine. We are nowhere near to look competitve vs teams like Portugal , France , Germany , Spain. Aim low and realistic and we ll be fine. I am not a supporter of JVS for sure but I reallly have to give it to the man. He has indeed made us a nation that can play the ball and make 15-20 chances per game, which we never did have. Slovenia is not the shithole we present it, they re slightly worse than us, and yet we made them - in 2 games - hope the game ends 0-0 which it did. Fortounis needs to be a starter because even on his bad day the opponents know him and mark him a lot, opening spaces. If JVS wants Bakasetas in as well he ll have to use 2 AMs like he did vs Cyprus. -
George Baldock - Sheffeld United

I asked why today because 5 days ago all the sports sites in Greece stated that his Greek naturalizing has returned and was frozen due to the pandemic situation. I suppose for all of them to return stilmultaneously as well a post being made her about him someone must have heard something about Balldock. -

he ain't good defensively. plays in a team that goes for 3-5-2 / 3-4-3. Honestly I would kill to see a backline of 5 with Tsimikas and Giannoulis both on the Left Wing and Baldock Limnios on the Right. -

Is it official now? I dont understand why the thread was made today. Guy is as good as Bakakis is defensively. Mediocre to bad, but his offensive duties are like the ones of our wingers. Huge addition in the defence. Hoping to see Manolas Siovas and why not Sokratis back in the team too, or at least some of em. -
Konstantinos Mavropanos ‒ West Ham United

Is at fault for goal #1. Coman literally destroyed him. -
None of the Fortounis or Bakasetas played furtherback lads. The system JVS tried was 4-1-2-3 and to be honest with nations like Moldova and Cyprus this is based. I would like to see Vlachodimos Mavrias/Rota - Chatzidiakos - Kourbelis/Tzavellas - Tsimikas Zeka Fortounis - Bakasetas Limnios - Giakoumakis - Chatzigiovanis vs Moldova.
-
Also Mavrias seems like a golden player compared to Chatzidiakos. I dont think he is any good but honestly vs Moldovas and Slovenias? He can help because he knows how to put crosses on and help Limnios offensively, as Bakakis does. None of them are good but overlap is important with weaker opposition as it opens spaces.

Suggested Call Ups, Starting 11

We won't play 3 on the back with Moldova and with a Slovenia we HAVE TO beat, theoretically. I am expecting the obvious. The call-ups say nothing about who he will play, and JVS has proven, quite a few times, that he doesn't change his lineup as much as he can. So the only spots for change will probably be GK/LW/CB for the simple reasons: 1.Barkas has lost his starting spot at Celtic but im not sure. JVS seems to be giving every NT window to a different GK between the two. 2. Mantalos/Svarnas are Coronout. 3. Giannoulis, the most talented current Greek player according to PAOK and myself, is almost dead from injury. Expected line-up: Vlachodimos ??? - Tzavellas - Chatzidiakos - Tsimikas Zeka - Kourbelis Limnios - Bakasetas - Fortounis/Masouras Pavlidis. -

Mantalos and Svarnas have covid? Woah that sounds like good news actually, unironically. Also why are you fighting over who has it bigger? I mean the desire and love for the NT obviously. This is a football forum and u re measuring your...loves? Chill it lads. We ll all be here united crying after we draw Moldova. No need to fight. Only love. -

Our quality is nowhere near Sweden, Ukraine, Austria my mate. Iceland, Wales, Ireland, Slovakia sure on our good day, but you re delusional. We have no players, and the few players we have have been excluded from the team. -

I dlike to see a lineup like this. Vlachodimos Bakakis (saddly only option) - Retsos (has had playtime this year) - Chatzidiakos - Tsimikas/Giannoulis Zeka - Kourbelis/Bouchalakis Limnios - Fortounis - Pelkas Fountas We need mobile players to unlock the slovenian poor defence. Players who can move the ball around faster than the opponent can expect. These 4 are the only ones who can do it. Pavlidis is very onesided player. Poor man's Mitroglou without the air domination and without the finishing. Put someone who can at least open spaces with his speed and make it easier for our pretty talented attacking midfielders to get a shot. Bouchalakis mistake vs Porto is something that anyone can do. Retsos is miles ahead from players like Svarnas and current Tzavellas. Tsimikas needs to play vs Moldova at least to give us the idea that the coach really rates him. -
Im gonna disagree with a lot of people here by the way. There is a huge problem at the CF, something we didnt have with Mitroglou the years 2013-2018. On those ages we made a few good chances on each match (that was the problem) yet he did manage to get a lot of them to go in. Now we have a totally different problem. We create by the fcking ton. And I mean a lot. I ve never seen the Ethniki create that much like it did in the last 3 games of NL. Kossovo - Moldova - Kossovo. I know the opposition is low but our opposition was equally low on the 2016 Euro Campaign , 2018 WC Campaign and 2020 Euro Campaign (excluding Belgium and Italy we re talking about nonexistent defences on all our campaigns - don't forget the 2 years ago Nations League). You wanna talk about how we should ve scored more past moldova? Watch our "golden year's video to be a reminder of how we played vs such nation. I like the football of JVS. I do not like the selections, but if in the few years on going players like Tsimikas Limnios Giannoulis , Lamprou (my personal favorite) Retsos, Masouras (the Olympiakos RB loanie in Poland), Tzolis, Vasiliadis develop to their potential and players like Fountas, Fortounis Pelkinho , Chatzidiakos (as a CB), Vlachodimos, Zeka remain decent performancewise, we re in it for a decent squad. In other words. The team ain't ready for success yet.

He is a clown. When his players ditched him on the press conference he kicked them out. Now he is doing the same thing to Fortounis. Kinda diminishing him saying that "he is not even a starter at Olympiacos all the time". I can expect Fortounis dodging the next call ups and declining the invitation. Every window that goes through I understand those clown Olympiacos fanatics that are saying that EPO is fighting them. I unironically keep agreeing with them every damn NT window.
-
Good result. Amazing offensively but truth be told. Half of our chances were created vs 9 men and after Fortounis and Fountas joined. Those guys are too mobile to be left on the bench. I know Moldova is a coffeeshop but truth be told Kossovar defence is a similar coffeeshop as well. Hatzidiakos is terrible as a RB. Couldn't help the build up at all. Rota made the Right flank a lot more promising even tho he fcked up with the penalty. I'd like to see Fountas and Fortounis start at the next match.

I doubt it is that. A coach who can only play one system is a system babby. And that is what JVS is. He can only play 3-4-3. Αnd players who don't he can't somehow make them fit in there (biggest example is Fortounis). Problem with Austria match was simple. JVS focused on CBs building up game which could not happen with the current faces. Sokratis could do that. Siovas could do that. Stafylidis could do that. Hatzidiakos can (to some extend), and I expect Retsos when fit and match ready to also do that - guy is good with his feet. What happened instead with Austria is midfield and defence being unable to build (because Lambropoulos is a low budget CB and Kyriakopoulos although good and excellent defensively, has not the offensive ability of Tsimikas or even Giannoulos. Fountas on the wings and Limnios on the wings proved that they have talent. Fortounis I still dont understand what position he plays at and I believe he could not undestand either. Mantalos was too poor, for yet another game. I do not think we ll have a problem to break the Moldova defence with these an offence like Fountas - Fortounis - Limnios and Koulouris just to pressure them (only thing he can do apparently). Kossovo I am sure though we will be lucky if we draw. And if we draw its gonna be a do-or-die match vs Slovenia at home, which I'd rather we didn't have to live again in such a group. Also, I expect some agreement from both sides (Epo and the banned players) in the near future after some bad results happen.
