  1. I waited long to see the results of the effort. Havent posted since be fore the match vs Spain. Team is really growing better and better mentally. We are not good at winning all the time (Kosovo and Georgia wins would have us top spot in the Group tied with Spain and above Sweden.

I like the effort regardless of the result of the campaign. We need to accept the fact that winning Sweden in our current state is an unexpected excellent result, same as the draw vs Spain in the Summer. Even if we dont win Sweden we ve been as competitive and good at the offensive part as we ve not been since 2014 and before. Mediocre players with a good plan is my take.

  2. I totally disagree with yawll. The 2008-2012 era we had a much worse roster. A coach that got s%$#! done while everyone hated him. This one also is hated from everyone.

What we lack maybe in roster compared to that period is killer strikers. Do you guys really remember Samaras and Salpigidis being that much of playmakers and forcing enemies doing fouls non-stop like Fortounis does?

we got players in our offensive midfield much more flexible than in that era.

I still believe the team lacks mentality. And we re not the only ones. Look at Poland. World star players and protagonists in top teams in Europe. Fluking every tournament they go, unable to get past the groupstages. Always a Dark Horse and never make it past the Groups. Team lacks mentality of a winner which was the thing that used to drive us on our golden era. AKA. These guys do not know how to win and do not know what expectations to have.

Because you’re hating on JVS even after we beat a solid Norway team. You still find something to criticize. Hence why you called him “this guy”. Who the hell cares if he plays if we still win?

Not saying you, but I see people on here and Twitter that literally HATE this man like he shagged their mom or something. We win, and people still complain about his selections. All these damn conspiracy theories. I even remember someone saying early , not mentioning his name...B.... that he was selecting certain players so he can get fired 😂

They dont call paok fans orcs for no reason, if that's what you got from my comment about Mantalos.

Wonderful first half, I wrote this the other day
http://hellasfooty.blogspot.com/2021...ke-change.html urging JVS to remove Bakasetas and get Masouras, Pelkas and Mantalos on, well I was worried at first about being proven wrong but it didn't take long for these guys to show us what Greece can do with good mobile players in attack, I also thought Androutsos and the 3 defenders were great again, actually like seen Androutsos move centrally at times as you can see the midfielder in him, great touches, passes and can get by a player 1:1 too.

Sadly the second half was a tragedy, with Bakasetas on, there was just no connection happening, Pelkas looked tired and nothing was sticking with Tzolis who I am starting to worry about.

I dunno if anyone in Australia watched it on Optus Sport and the stupid commentator was saying a penalty was given on the Tsimikas handball... I was devastated only to see what I originally thought, it's a goal kick!

Speaking of Tsimikas, clearly a little rusty with the lack of game time, I don't think you can fully judge him now, when in form and playing he is a very good player

It's no wonder we haven't scored more than 2 goals in 4 years was it?? We are s%$#! at finishing and we just don't have the drive to put teams away... second half... I don't get who we got so poor, no what we wanted to see but overall a good two results prior to September, you got to keep Bakasetas outside the 11.

Tzolis is a good player on open space.

Vs Honduras the kid has a dozen of chances, missed all but he was in them. Honduras played open ball and came to win. Norway was strict and not giving us space to run. Tzolis will be decent for 1st and 2nd tier opposition like Sweden and Spain, if he moves to a better league and gets proper football education, work ethic and competition for a starting spot.

I am wondering why we didn't see Fountas who also had another amazing season. Similar statistics to Bakasetas in a similar difficulty league. Hoping he declined the call-up for transfer negotiations. I also am wondering why we saw no Sebastian Vasiliadis. Guy got a transfer to Bundesliga side Arminia. It's not like our midfield has so much talent that we can miss out on a Bundesliga player.

  5. Seems to me like this guy is very talented and that is why JVS has been putting him as a starter all these games.

He has been solid 2,5 seasons in a row with Willem. And it's his 3rd season scoring 10+ goals. Also has a decent number of assists every season. I think we really need to give him some time, even if that proves to be 2+ years. With Bouchalakis Fortounis and Tzolis, who are considered decent service, we might see some stuff from him. Let's not forget that we are talking about a 22 year old kid. Mitroglou was a back-up 3rd choice striker at Olympiakos at his age.

Torosidis played at left back for the Ethniki since he debuted in 2007, long before he ever moved to Roma. He was 22 so I'm not sure your experience argument holds up. Toro was only moved to his natural right back once Rehhagel left and Santos took over post 2010 World Cup.

We don't know if Tsimikas would fail or not at right back, there are challenges with playing on your opposite side as you have correctly pointed out. If JVS is going to insist on Mavrias as the no.2 right back and not consider other options, 10/10 times I would rather see Tsimikas playing on his weak side.

I cant disagree on u that Id have Tsimikas or Kyriakopoulos or Lykogiannis as RB instead of even Bakakis. We have serie A left backs. One should be able to perform better than Mavrias and even Bakakis ifu ask me.

  7. Stop asking on a LB to play RB. They re not as experienced as Toro was when he did that at Roma. Playing on the wrong foot means u can mostly pass inside and not on your wingman, and it means you need to cut the opponent wingman with your wrong foot (same thing that Mavrias tried to do when we conceded, because he tried to cut inside). Bakakis wouldn't be much better. For me the blame is mostly on Limnios who, knows that kid is talented, stays up front even after we re 1-0 up.
The lineup wasn't bad. I repeat. If you exclude the fact that we do miss Manolas and Siovas, the line-up wasnt bad. The players just were ordered to play calmly which ended up in giving Georgians psychology and thoughts of attacking, which did happen. They played with 1 DM. A 36 year old who was running up and down the pitch 3 days before out match vs Spain. We never really gve them the chance to face our offence without being organized.  Even on that Tzolis shot (our best chance), they were all were they should be, but the difference in the team power showed. The run of Giannoulis was unexpected and Tziolis was not marked properly.

If we managed to find space to do that one or two more times it coulda been a whole different match from halftime.

Coach killed it. I dont wanna hear about our players being s%$#! when our competition is Georgia.

We were playing vs a team whose wonderstar is playing in a midtable-bottomtier Russian team. Giannoulis, Pavlidis, Fortounis, Bouchalakis, Siopis, Tzavellas, Vlachodimos, Limnios, Masouras, Zeka, Bakasetas, Pelkas all play at similar or better teams.

The players we have, (it was me who mentioned it before and I was referred to in some previous comment i think from @AEK RE GAMOTO) are not the next ronaldinhos. When the opposition defenders are:
DM: French Ligue 2 midtable team - Valencienes

DM: La Lig Segunda division - prelast team- Cartagena - hasn't had a match in 2021.

LB: Backup  LB/LM in a midtable Austrian team.  Wolfsberger AC. Trashed 1-8 in the round of 32 of Europa.  He only played a bit as sub.

RB: Backup RB in a midtable La Liga Segunda division - Tenerife - had 10 matches whole season.

CB: Dvali is actually their second best player after that wingerkid. He plays in the hungarian league champions who made it to the C.L. this year.

CB: The other CB returned to Europe (Dinamo Tsibili of Georgia- friendly reminder for the Paok fans they played vs them in the qualifiers in 2017 and beat them 5-0 on aggrogate) from MLS. Hasn't played a match in 2021.

Goalkeeper: I remember that guy from Olympiakos I actually liked him. He currently plays at Anorthosis in Cyprus. Solid goalie, but mot of his free kicks or γιώμες were taken by our players.

You can make sure that our players are enough to defeat them. The tactics were the problem. Talking about Tsimikas instead of Giannoulis wasn't gonna solve the problem. Playing attack, will.

The EPO budget is tiny for a coach so if you think we are getting anyone with any type of wining pedigree you’re wrong they won’t come here. There’s no question we are not getting the results that’s not up for debate. We should be beating these lesser teams but this goes back to Raneri where we were losing to the Faroe Islands and Skibbe who we had some bad results with and even tied Estonia FFS at home in a must win game. Don’t forget Skibbe also cost us that first game against Croatia with his unbelievably bad experimental line up, you mentioned the fact that we tied Croatia in the 2nd game but you ignored how bad his coaching decisions were in the first game that ultimately gave us no chance in the second game. JVS has got us not losing as we are on an undefeated streak for a while now but I do acknowledge it’s nowhere near good enough especially if we’re not beating these lower tier teams which is unacceptable. Not beating Slovenia and Kosovo was bad and JVS by now should Have the team winning these type of games there’s no question you won’t get an argument from me about that, but going back to my original point with the money the EPO has to spend on a coach you’re not going find anybody much better at the current moment. Also the Manolas thing and him not being part of the team I read somewhere that it had nothing to do with JVS, it said as long as the EPO president is still there he won’t be part of the National team.

JVS has only faced one team that is not 4th-5th tier in the European teams ranking. That is spain last week. We are not losing to them micronations but we are not winning them more than 50% of our matches. Does this comment mean we agree that we became a 4th-5th tier team a well? Realistically, since we can't really prove dominance against them and secure 3pointers against them on most occassions, or at least look like we can, it does. We are a 4th-5th tier team with 2nd-3rd tier players. How can you guys be okay with that and "trust the process". It's been 2 years since the process started.

    I'm not implying anything.

What I am saying is that when our country, our team, loses and loses a match we all expected to win, peoples moods will be adversely affected. The last thing anyone wants to see right at the last whistle is trash talking in a "i told you so" tone. Its pathetic.

I have no problem stating how poorly and flat Greece played today. We are all gutted. I'll never come in though and kick everyone while they're down....

You re missing the bigger picture. Tow questions for you.

When was the last time your team won a team we weren't expected to? I ll tell you. Netherlands - Greece friendly 1-2. 2016

How many teams have we underperformed against and lost or drew to a team that we were expecting to win since JVS started coaching the team? JVS was hired july 2019. Let's start:
Finland away loss (im a realist and believe a draw would be a decent result btw). Liechtenstein draw.
Kossovo once. Slovenia twice. Georgia now.

The guy has us snatching 50% of results vs teams like Finland,Georgia, Kossovo. He literally made us a 4-5th tier team, as there is no result that proves that we are/can be better. And you re okay with it. We had the usual comment "give him time." Next national team window he ll be 2 years and 2 months in the NT and he has achieved NOTHING compared to his presuccessors. Skibbe got us in the fcking play off spot and had us score twice in 180 minutes to the eventual runner up croatia. How much more CALMA do I need to be? And when I come and say "ah look a s%$#! result" you and more than half of this forum accuses me of being toxic.

The team is s%$#!. The players arent. We are no Spain and France and have the ability to field 11 players who all play in teams that made it to the Champions League and Europa League Semifinals every year. But goddamn we have professional players in top leagues (Giannoulis, Tsimikas, Vlachodimos, Mavropanos,). We have star players who have a beef with Epo since JVS joined (Manolas, Siovas). We have players in champion-mentality teams in mediocre leagues (Zeka, Siopis,Bakasetas,Pelkas, Tzavellas who was this window's mvp for me). We have Olympiakos GREEK players who always manage to look competitive and look like they can fit in when they play with elite teams in C.L. and Europa league (Fortounis, Masouras Bouchalakis, even Vrousai and Androutsos). Almost all mentioned have more than half of the maximum playtime available this season.

Take a look at the line ups of Slovenia x2, Kossovo, Georgia, Liechtenstein. Look at their players. You need to tell me that more than half of our matches under JVS, vs teams that I should expect my team to beat, were "bad luck"? Or do you want me to believe my players are not good enough? They re not good, don't get me wrong, but they re much better than you make it look like.

This coach is a clown. This is his circus. Apparently 2 years werent enough for him to prove his worth. He just needs some more time. All we gotta do is drop 20 more spots on the ranking, so that we end up in League D, and finally MAYBE win something.

So, to answer your question, I do not care if you believe i am toxic for stating something you are so tired of seeing. Either I start saying what an amazing team performance this was to manage to snatch a draw and not lose, or I start saying that the team is s%$#!, and we, as a country, are not looking to be able to step up our post 2014 era, my stance, my irony and my toxic behaviour will not change the fact that another qualification tournament started with a γκέλα.

I agree it was not a good line up. He was at fault and it showed early in the game.

Nah the line up was the best possible. I disagree. Bouchalakis is a more offensive midfielder than the other one in the group, Siopis. We needed him. Fortounis was okay . Bakasetas is a good player but he cannot perform with the NT. Noone would perform better than him tho. Maybe Fortounis in the 10 and Baka on the wings would be better.

RB whoever u put was gonna be a yoyo of the opponents. CBs are the best he calls. LB The best we have , and the best player with Fortounis. CF is not much difference between the two. Pavlidis is better with the ball on his feet.

The lineup was good. The tactics and the whole "patient" approach of the match was the problem. That's why JVS takes the complete blame.

Like I said bro I respect everybody’s opinion we’re not all going to agree about certain aspects of the team, and lots of frustration takes over especially when we are all so fed up after of number of years without qualifications and seeing no progress in the team. Yeah it sucks so sometimes your blood boils but I’m over it.. let’s move on..

This time. There is only one person to blame. The lineup was splendid compared to what and who we have as country. The tactics we re s%$#!. JVS lost it on his own and im not negotiating it. His time is trully up.

Dude I’m pretty sure you’re not the guys PR person but when you come out game after game and start taking shots at people after  a disappointing result that ended your qualification by saying

“I hope everyone goes to hell and shuts there mouth”

Do you think nobody’s going to reply to that? What world are you from where you think everyone’s just gonna keep quiet. If he came out and even said I told you guys or anything else but the minute you tell guys to go to hell and shut there mouth there will be some backlash..

You re acting like a 12 year old. This is an anonymous forum. Ignoring someone over the internet is multiple times easier than real life. He is a kid compared to us. You re just commin in for a fight as well, you re just doing it more ύπουλα.

I don’t like bakakis  too much but I feel like he had a solid game before coming off.

that kid on the left wing for Georgia Is extremely talented. This is what we expected from Limnios, who has basically vanished in the last few games 😞

If you know their only real deanger is on the right  u put a right DM there much earlier and ask your RM to backtrack nonstop. Masouras should ve been put on the right. The line up today was perfect. JVS tactics were terrible.

Tsimikas as the replacement of Giannoulis... hilariously bad decision by the coach, that is. Tsimikas should start! And he would if we would have a proper head coach.

"our future is bright with svarnas and mavrias" that line is good LOL

You re looking for a ψίλλος στα άχυρα my amigo. Giannoulis was our best player. They didn't even bother to even attack from his side. Bakakis and Mavrias are so nonexistent, a winger can ignore them and have the lane like an αεροδιάδρομο. You found the only thing he did right today. Putting Giannoulis.

It’s not about people stating there opinion it’s about how people go about it and try to poke the bear and insult everyone here that try to find some positivity in the team.. I will respect everyone’s views but if you come out at everyone taking shots everytime Greece play bad it starts to piss you off.. Especially after a loss where you already feel gutted.

He is angry because its a team he enjoys and wants it to perform. This clown fiesta was a coach-driven result. 10 times vlacho could try the fast pass up front but the call was "patience".

Patience is done. We re stepping in the 2nd year with this manager. So many mistakes. Forcing Bakasetas to become a leader he cannot be, just to prove something to Fortounis. We weren't plying vs Spain, or vs Portugal or even vs Bosnia Finland and Serbia. We werent even playing a team at the lvl of Albania or Montenegro. We were playing vs an Estonia.

4 years ago we were drawing Estonia and losing to Faroe Islands and Finland but we never looked this s%$#! in 2 matches in a row.

  16. 1 minute ago, AEK RE GAMOTO said:

Losing, especially the way we did today, sucks. But what sucks even more is when the weasel clowns literally wait for the final whistle to come on here and trash the team. GTFOH...

Are you implying we re just asking too much of a team that "has ambitions on qualifying", when we expect them to be able to dominate a team in the power rankings of Georgia? This wasn't a Spain-Greece result draw. We weren't just unlucky. We weren't playing. JVS obviously giving the call to play calmly and never try to counter. On a team that has defenders of the Georgian League and 2nd tier spanish league?

  17. Guy states the obvious that the team is s%$#! and people get overdefensive about it. We re all angry guys. I am sure now the people who said we need people with passion in the team to realise the limitations of just passion.

Bakasetas in 2 matches was our worst player. RB is nonexistent, honestly. The manouvre a 20 year old did to Mavrias, hilarious. If he managed to stay up for 1 more meter back Kyriakos would be there to make this a 2v1.

2 matches. the opposition focuses on our Right Back position constantly.

Tzavellas could run faster than their wingers, that guy is really our best defender overall.

Vlachodimos is wasted with us. He could be the 3rd choice keeper in Germany. Pour decision making.

  18. Bakakis hasn't been solid defensively vs anyon in the Greek League and vs anyone the NT has faced under his spell being our starter RB. Why would u be mad.

I was talking about Bryan Gil/ Hil whatever he was called. First time in the NT and Bakakis made it look like he was Ronaldo. A kid playing for Elche (bottom tier team) with 3 goals and 3 assists in 22 games this year. Indeed Bryan is not 17-18 but that emo-scene hair and the fact that he was debutting for Spain made me think he s another youth talent.

When I said that Baldock is as bad defensively as Bakakis, I really underrestimated George Baldock.

  19. Bakakis was the worst player in the field alongside Bakasetas. An 18 year old made him look amateur on his Spain NT debut. Every time the Boy on the Left Wing position had the ball he ended up making a cross / kept it long enough to give a pass back / won a corner from Bakakis or Kyriakos who would come to help Bakakis. Anyone saying he played well really watched another match. Tsimikas Tzavellas were 100% efficient.  Kyriakos close but that no-reason try of his to tackle when they were on the counter really could have ended up in a goal againt us. I assume his idea was μπάλα or πόδια but the attacker ( don't remember who ) clearly managed to save both.

I am not really in the mood of discussing about if we played good or not or even if we playd at all. The maximum passes we could do , even at the defence line, was 2. Maybe we did 3 at some point.

Bouchalakis has been so underrated all this time or did his maturity make him such a box-to-box defending and attacking machine? I expect Georgians to be shocked by his ability to smart pass. His teammates at Olympiakos definately have been shocked and never expect them.

  20. Havent seen the NT play so shitte since 2008 i ve been a consistent follower but goddamn we got the point and that's all what we should care for. This puts pressure to Sweden to have to beat us or have better goal difference than us. No way the Spanish , in the middle of the groupstage, drop another point. Another positive : Sweden winning by 1 goal only.

The defence mechanism of the team was unreal, but realisticlly we didn't play football. We played [don't-let-the-opponent-play-football]ball.

Tsimikas - Tziolis Left Flank can look competitive with open spaces.
