Tziolis provides nothing. Tachtsidis is slow and defensively is not that good. Samaris is good enough to be the 8ari. I agree about Maniatis. I like the idea about Torosidis and Holebas as wingbacks pushing forward alot. Also Petsos should be ahead of Tziolis.
The real problem we have to worry about is Manolas. We all know how good he is and i am a fan this player. Sokratis is our best player. Kyriakos i can count on. He always turns it on for Greece. I think Manolas thinks his so good that he gets caught out when playing for Greece.
I always wish the best for Greek players, i always want Greeks in anything to make us proud and do well and these past few years Manolas has been the most improved player out of all Greeks. Also in my opinion its safe to say Sokratis and Manolas are our World Class players. Im very patriotic and i am a very proud Greek and i want Greece to be a superpower not just in football but in everything thats how proud and patriotic i am.
I can tell you in the 2014 World Cup Manolas suprised at how good he played and what he can do. This is my order of who made me think what a player they are.
1.Manolas ( Just shocked me at the way he defended and won so many areial duels but i knew what he was capable of from Olympiakos but at the World Cup he was king.)
2.Kone ( This guy looked way above everyone else in my opinion looked like the real spark for our team in attack.)
3.Lazaros/Samaris ( Lazaros showed everyone how well he can dribble past players.) Samaris completely shocked me with the way the goal he scored when he came on.)
These 4 have serious talent and should be the players that should of carried this team in Euro Qualifiers. But they didnt.
The only player that i can say that did well and was better than everyone else was Sokratis. He tried to carry this team by himself this shows you how much he cares and the passion he has for his country.
All in all if Manolas does not pick up his NT form i say we give the spot to Papadopoulos.

In my opinion say what you want about Siovas but he saved us a couple of times. The score could have been more.
Oikonomou looked like he couldn't win a header all game. Holebas passing is not good enough.
Stafylidis is a better passer of the ball. I think Skibbe also wants Stafylidis somewhere on the team.
Vellios looked good with his touches. Karelis and Fortounis are carrying this team in attack.
Papazoglou has no place in the team. Petsos I believe is a good player.
Overall the team looks promising. I also believe if we had one of Manolas, Sokratis or Papadopoulos starting we would have drew this match.

I know how you feel chriskiato. I wanted Ninis and Fetfatzidis to be in the starting 11 for a long time and it finally happened but for only 5 mins and that was in the WC qualifiers under Santos.

I agree that Karelis is short. Not that short but. He is strong and fast enough with the ball at his feet and looks the most hungriest player in attack.
Him being on the wing I think would make him isolated and not get the ball as much. Him being striker is a better idea, but then again is he good enough in the air to score goals.
It's also a good idea to try him CAM.
Diamantakos I am a fan of, he plays with passion. Vellios has been a gun lately. I also wouldn't mind seeing both playing up top.
In this match id like to see Fortounis, Petsos and Tachtsidis midfield. Especially Fortounis playing deeper which he can run through the middle because of his dynamic dribbling and create a possible goal scoring chance.
Also this will be a better test and with 4 key players missing we should see...

I thought we played a good match. Sokratis was good, Fortounis was good.
Manolas should have done better in the corner. Tzavellas played well also. Stafylidis showed he can be a big part to this team he shows great energy down the left and is good with the ball at his feet.
Samaris was very average for me. Tachtsidis should take his place next game. We must play Petsos again. He was very good in his positioning, he is faster and more agile than Tachtsidis but Tachtsidis is technically better.
Torosidis was average.
Oikonomou looked good also.
What a player Karelis is! he and Fortounis must play in the same line up, that was a good finish.

Samaris I know can handle big match situations.

That's true. Maniatis is better than Tziolis in all aspects of the game. But I still don't know if Tachtsidis is going help in the long term. Against minnow and average teams he is a very good player. But how will he be against the stronger teams and big match situations.

What a shame. This is becoming very annoying. He is a type of player that would save you the game. I believe he played better than Manolas all campaign. He is definitely needed in the Ethniki. Is there any news on Sokratis?

Everyone knows that Manolas, Papadopoulos and Sokratis have the CB position covered for the next 5-10 years. Siovas should not be there. Good thing that Vyntra did not get called up. I also noticed that Lazaros and Kone did not get called up.

I don't why Skibbe has called up 6cbs and 3Lbs. Also we have to many strikers. Kitsiou should have been called up.

It has always been tricky figuring out who should be in the starting 11 in my opinion the defensive midfield position is very thin and I believe only Samaris and Tachtsidis should be in there. I also believe that they are both level in ability. It's just one of them is faster than the other. They are both level In passing but I believe Tachtsidis plays more riskier passes, which is good. They are both tall, good in the air, strong and both a goal each.
Maniatis is another option but is not as good as a distributor as the other 2.
Petsos needs to be given a go.
Bouchalakis and Kourbelis have long way especially the latter.
K.Papadopoulos can be an option cause he is a strong tackler and in a 3 man midfield he can sit back and let the likes of Samaris, Tachtsidis, Fortounis, Mantalos and Pelkas create and support the forwards.

I hope Kitsiou and Stafylidis improve their defence they need to be more physical and aggressive in their tackles. They are good at attacking. I also like the PAOK youth talent such as Kitsiou, Mystakidis, Pelkas, Charisis, Korovesis, I also heard good things about the new CB they bought. Im a Olympiakos fan and i believe PAOKs youth players they bring up are better than AEK, PAO and OLY. I also think Vellios should be playing ahead of Giannou in the pecking order. Even Iraklis youth players like Tsilianidis and Asteras Tripolis have Kourbelis. Ive heard good stuff about Panionios players such as Bakasetas. Im not sure what the coach is going to do with the team in the upcoming friendlies but players like Samaris, Sokratis, Manolas, and Mitroglou should not start give players like Pelkas, Gianniotas, Charisis, Diamantakos a go also let Kapino start and give K.Papadopoulos and Oikonomou a try as back ups.

i just want to point out something as i want to point it out here. In the 2014 world cup we all know the players that played well Samaris, Kone and Lazaros. We thought that these players after Karagounis, Katsouranis and Salpingidis were going to do the job and show leadership and take over from the old players. Im finding it very hard still that we didn't qualify for Euro 2016. i actually believed we would reach the semi's in Euro 16 with the way we played in the World Cup in 2014.
I also thought we would demolish our group. Especially because we have a younger squad with faster players. The 1st game is understandable, but after the 3rd game i started to realise something and something was not right. Something was not right. I still cant figure it out only until a few weeks ago. Yes there were things like the players were not showing passion, energy or showing no interest. But i believe that was not true. i believe the team had this mentality that they could take it easy against the teams as they thought they were too good for them and underestimated them.
But then again the second match against the Faroes proved to be something else as it was i feel a poor combination players and bad luck up the front.
The only good games we played was against Romania and Hungary both home and away. those are the only 4 that i think we played good and showed character but even then there were bad points as is always the case with the National Team.
I know there is another topic on this forum about the most dissapointing player but i am having hard time as to who i think was the most dissapointing player was. But i beleve our defence was most dissapointing all included. But if i had to choose a single player that dissapointed me i think it would have to have been either Samaris or Kone. I actually counted on these 2 to do the job for Greece. I knew Lazaros would be inconsistent, I also knew Mitroglou would be inconsistent. The only good player i think overall and shows a lot of promise is Karelis, he shocked me a couple of times. I also think Karnezis could have done better.
I also think once Torosidis and Holebas stop playing and lose form we will be in trouble. Kitsiou and Stafylidis i believe are not strong to keep up with the stronger teams. I believe if we want to get better we need to utilise Holebas and Torosidis on the wings and make sure Mitroglou is on his game swell as others. I also believe Fortounis needs to start from here on out.
Id like to know what everyone else thinks about what i have said and add what else was the cause and what needs to happen from now.

To be honest , as long as the defence stays as it is , and if not 3 CBs then 2 CBs and 1 extra defensive mid , i dont really care much about how the attack will go , i pretty much doubt everyone except Pelkas who , even at a paok that has been left far behind , shows talent, and Fortounis. The rest , I care not. Id like to see vellios start at upcommung friendlies. and even Giannou. Moreover , I dont think we should play with players wide , We just dont have extrems apart from fetfatzidis . Ranieri had to use Diamantakos and that AEK tagari whose name I ve even forgoten.
My Starting 11 could be something like :

In general I was a fan of a 3 - 5 - 2 but we simply cant have K. Paps non injured all the time so we cant rely a lot in that. Siovas good as well but not as good as K. Paps so a 3 -5 - 2 with siovas would mean we re on disadvantage, considering that our bad luck in scoring will keep on following us.
Subs/back-ups:
Goalkeepers : Karnezis is far better than Kapino , playing as a starter everywhere he went , in Spain and Italy , since he left PAO, where he was also one of the most decend GKs.
Also Kapino doesn't play in Oly. I bet even if Roberto leaves they ll get someone else instead of giving the boy a chance. Keep Kapino as back up.
Defenders : K. Papadopoulos and Siovas for the CBs, upcoming talents are Ikonomou and Tzanetopoulos as you said. Kitsiou , Bakakis could make it big in a Spanish/Italian championship. Stafylidis is in my opinion Equal to Jose , but his crosses are Gold. Fuhlam guys loved him
Midfielders : Maniatis if he ever reclaims his former form, and finally gets a good transfer to a top club could even become a starter. That guy has no shot at all , agreed , but he is fast like hell and very good defensively. Petsos, probably is now free from the Austrian team. If he stays there , or decides to go to a better team he has future. If he comes to Olympiakos as rumours say we are ruined. He cant play when we have Milivojevic Cambiasso and Kassami. The guy can't fit and he ll be left out and be destroyed. Tziolis. I dont care if you dont like him. I do.
Attacking Midfielders : looking back 3 years ago we had noone in that position. Literally. We saw a good star in the Eyes of Katidis who ended up ruining his career at the age of 21(? not sure ?). 3 Years back we have the likes of Fortounis , Kone and Mantalos , and maybe Pelkas if he keeps his form. Also , Ninis was used mostly as a Right Midfielder/Winger back then , now he has taken a more central/attacking mid role. I hope he continues to amaze.
Strikers: Vellios, Giannou , Karelis even Diamantakos.
The NT has a complete Roster. Now that they have seen that failures are possible , and not like last year when we were top seeds and would get easy draws, they are probably

Dean, my changes to your indepth analysis, also based on the last Ethniki game too, would be Pelkas as a wide mid, with Fortounis up higher just behind Mitroglou. Karelis may grab a bench spot. I would also trust Bakakis as a RB back up. My back up DM would be Petsos. I would not touch Tziolis. Good work though man. I

i hear a lot of things about Kourbelis on this forum what is he so good at i keep on hearing that he should have been chosen over Tziolis and stuff like that. What makes him a good player.

Karelis has talent he has that something that most young greek players dont have. He has improved dramatically but form is a problem and consistency.

id like to know as to why Tasoulis was called up by Ranieri. What did he see in him in the first place. I do believe though we now should be playing younger players more often but this player has not done much. I also want to discuss each player in this Euro Qualifying campaign and other players in general from what i know. Also were we are heading in the future.
1st i start with Karnezis. I believe he was not bad but could have done better in this campagin. He is the only decent keeper we have that is playing in a top league. But there were times where i wanted him to not be in the squad because ithing he could have done better in the games especially with the Faroes.
Kapino has time still to improve but is not that far off. Glykos is not bad. I think he is better than Vellidis. So for now Karnezis is still the number 1 keeper for the Ethniki.
Our right back position is one of my biggest concerns, not because Torosidis cant play because he still can and is good enough to still play but we have no proper back up meaning there are no up and coming Rbs from Greece that can take over Torosidis position in the next 5 years. Kitsiou is good but is noth there physically and defensively. Skondras is slow, Konstantinidis needs more time, and Bakakis is not playing as much as before but is my chosen to player to take over from Torosidis. So for now Torosidis is still the RB.
Cbs we have a lot of depth there. Manolas, Sokratis and K.Papapdopoulos have that covered. Aswell as players like OIkonomou coming up and Tzanetopoulos. Siovas is good also.
My other concern is who is the new Lb going to be because Holebas is more useful for our attack which i will speak about later. Stafylidis shows potential but is like Kitsiou. Tzavellas is slow but a decent back up. there is no else really this is one of the biggest problems that the Ethniki need to fix. Maybe a new formation is needed such as a 5-3-1-1.
Next is the most trickiest. Defensive midfield. This is where Samaris has played most of our games this campaign and is on the most dissapointing players along with Lazaros. He is our only decent option and i am fan of this player but he for some reason he has not done that extra thing where you would think he would do something to save the team. He is a world class contributor in the passing sense but hasnt got the real vision that Tachtsidis has. ive watched a few replays of the Greece games where i watched how Samaris likes to play a simple a pass. A simple is not going to create anything for goal scoring opportunities. The only way your going to creating anything its if you play more riskier passes. For example like the one where Samaris played a nice through ball in the air to Torosidis who delivered a good cross for Aravidis to score against Northern Ireland. Another example is the one Tachtsids played to put MItroglou on through goal against Hungary. The more risker passes we play forward the more opportunities we have. This is why Tziolis should not be in tharting line up. He would be good as a bench option, so when you want to slow the game down when we are leading. If the coach can say this to players like Samaris, Tachtsidis and Petsos more often then our attack is going to look more dangerous.
Our attacking mid options are not bad. We have Fortounis, Kone, Mantalos, Pelkas, Ninis and Lazaros. Only 2 of them should play more central. Im talking about Fortounis and Mantalos. Fetfatzidis can play there also. Ninis is also good there but can be used on the wing. Kone can be a good option off the bench. Out of all these players Fortounis should be starting more often.
Our wingers should be Holebas he is the only one than can spark something into nothing and create something for a goal scoring chance for himself and for the striker. we seriouly lack natural wingers. Pelkas is closer but is not athletic as Holebas. Maybe Lazaros can play there but if your going to get the same thing with Lazaros such as being selfish then play Fetfatzidis or Pelkas. Mavrias can also be a good winger.
Strikers. Mitroglou is going to play more often because he has an eye for goal. He dosent work as hard in runnig wise as to Karelis but all he needs is good service and were good. Vellios should be a back up. Players like DIamantakos and Vergos need more time. Giannou is 3rd in place in my opinion before Vellios. MItroglou needs to show himself more for the ball and run into space more often aswell.

This is what my team would look like. The bald are players that start. The formation is 5-3-1-1. Its defensive which is good because im playing to our strengths. It can also become a 3-1-4-2 attack formation with the Torosidis and Holebas pushing up forward giving crosses to the likes of Mitroglou, Kone, Karelis, Tachtsidis even Papadopoulos who can go forward when needed on an occasion to support in the air for crosses as Samaris can cover. This a very balanced team which is being played to our strengths which more importantly is to not concede and we can scrape through against any team with a 1-0 or 2-0 victory. All that matters is that we win.-

Club form and NT form are two different things. NT selection is chosen by club form and at the moment he is our best striker playing in a top league. There are very few friendly matches and you need to win qualifying matches, that's when you need an inform striker you. He is no where near the form he was in 2013 but is slowly getting back to that form. Vellios should be the back up for Mitroglou and not Klaus.

Like who. Who is talented like Mitroglou. He might a lazy player but he is the most effective player we have at the moment. Klaus I don't think we should play. The only player that comes to mind is Karelis. But Mitroglou is our best, meaning as in strikers for Greece.

Diamantakos scored his 2nd goal. I think this player will do well for the Ethniki. I agree with playing Mavrias also, but he is not playing regularly for the 1st team in Sunderland. Vellios for sure needs to be given a shot.

Vellios is big he is very good with his head. He is a bit more faster than Mitroglou and has more expirience in a top league such as the Premier League. he is in good form and in my opinion is better that Giannou in a technical aspect. Klaus and MItroglou are our better players and are both 27, but Klaus is in bad form and MItroglou is in good form. So, players like Diamantakos and Bakasetas have time, Karelis is another option but now Mitroglou should be starting and our main striker should be him. Vellios should play when MItroglou is not scoring for the NT. Also Vellios has more potential in the NT than Klaus.

Our defence is good to play a more attack minded style only for the inclusion of Pelkas and Mantalos. Fetfatzidis and Ninis are good enough to replace. Kone should be playing centrally all the time. He is more effective there. Fortounis must play also. Tsilianidis is an up and coming winger we could use just got work on s few things. Pelkas should be our winger and Holebas. Mitroglou should start, Vellios should be the back up. This is how our attack should be.
