  1. Interesting points by everyone. I think this team is still a long way off by making a tournament in my opinion. The reason being is that this team doesn’t play it’s best players and the only way you get in the team is by paying for caps. To be honest I’m tired of hoping that the team and EPO will sort itself out every international break. I have always hoped something would change in a positive sense such as better call ups. But they’ve let us down in that aspect time and time again. There are a group of players who constantly start that continuously sabotage the team. It’s not there fault, they are just not good enough. They might try but there lack of talent is very evident. They are just a handful and if we were to replace them with more faster and skilful players then most of our problems will disappear. That’s what I truly believe. This team doesn’t have world class players apart from maybe Manolas, so that’s why I think playing your best players possible is the answer. Might not solve everything straight away but it’s a great start. Also this team have been having it hard in terms of injuries. I think if Retsos, K.Papadopoulos and Galanopoulos weren’t injury prone our teams performance would look a bit better. This is based on from what I’ve seen in the past with these guys for Greece. Also you can’t ignore players like Fountas who scores nearly every week. Also to say we haven’t got RBs is a lie, what wrong with playing Kotsiras, Kitsiou or Giannis Masouras there. Lyratzis can be another option there. These players play nearly every week so there are options.
  2. I think the captaincy should go to either Tsimikas, Vlachodimos, Manolas or Fortounis. These guys are our best players. As far as long serving or a real leader, that should go to either Sokratis or Kyriakos Papadopoulos. Both these guys have played a lot for Greece and both have more leadership qualities. That’s if Sokratis plays again and if Papadopoulos stays fit. Also Mavropanos is the most inform out of all our CBs so he has to start.
  3. I think its really easy to figure out why we aren’t playing well and the coaches have trouble picking the right team. For some reason most of our players are more inform for club, but when they come and play for Greece they forget how to play. Players like Pavlidis, Limnios, Pelkas, Mantalos etc. players like Bakasetas and Bouchalakis are useless and I’ll explain why. You have to look at the clubs these players play for. Pavlidis has better players around him at club level and that is why he can score goals. Same goes for Giakoumakis. For Greece they have Bakasetas and Bouchalakis trying to provide for them and yet these 2 can’t get the basics right, such as passing and controlling the ball. Limnios is another, he has no one capable to play together and therefore is left on his own to make things happen. Fortounis at times for Greece had to do double duty and drop in deep in midfield to collect the ball and create a play, when the number 8 should be doing that instead. We have to stop playing 2 defensive midfielders. Especially against teams worse than us and level with us. We haven’t got top quality DMs like other nations. Most of them are destroyers like Siopis we haven’t got a deep playing playmaker that can pull the string in deep positions. We haven’t got an 8 of top quality that can do the job defensively and get forward well. The only one number 8 we have is Alexandropoulos and he’s got it all. We need to give him games. If your not going to use him then we’ll have to play a CAM like Pelkas or Mantalos deeper in midfield who can help the team going forward. One defensive midfielder like Siopis can cover defensively. We also need to play out and out wingers. Pick any 2 from Limnios, Tzolis, Chatzigiovannis and Masouras. Then play Fortounis at CAM and you’ll have a more functional attack and the goals will come. Against better opposition 2 DMs will be needed as we haven’t got top quality midfielders who can do everything that’s needed.
  4. I think that u19 generation back then that consisted of Bakasetas, Bouchalakis, Stafylidis and Kourbelis have to be dropped out of the team. We haven’t gotten anywhere with these guys and you could say they cost us qualification. They are all in there late 20’s now. For me it’s simple, play your best and most skilful players. I don’t care where you play. This team have players playing in Greece, Turkey and some in Germany. Still can’t get the job done. To ignore skillful players like Fetfa is absurd. I don’t care if it’s just friendlies your supposed to put away teams like Montenegro and Romania comfortably. Some of our players are injury prone like Retsos, Fortounis and Galanopoulos. These guys are better than what we have playing right now and when they are fit should automatically be in the side. Mantalos and Pelkas are very inconsistent and Bakasetas is just completely useless. We can just get by with Mantalos and Pelkas but I still think we need even better. We should look at possibly bringing Ninis back. If Kyriakos Papadopoulos (who I think is still good enough for this team) can come back and play for Greece while playing in Croatia then Ninis should be given another go. He’s injury prone just like Kyriakos Papadopoulos, so it’s hard to rely on them but when fit put them in they have quality. I can’t think of a better players at the moment. I would like this team to consist of players in the age range of 18-27 with a few exceptions. Get rid of that core I mentioned that play currently and play your best players. Media and EPO make it hard for that to happen as there seem to be too much politics and corruption going on especially with caps. Sokratis and Manolas should come back for the better of the team. Mavropanos is great and has a big future but I don’t think Hatzidiakos, Goutas and other young CBs are ready to take Greece to a major tournament. What we actually need is ti have everyone playing and fit but that isn’t always the case. My team if everyone is fit: Vlachodimos Baldock Manolas Mavropanos Tsimikas Alexandropoulos Galanopoulos Fetfatzidis Fortounis Tzolis Giakoumakis subs: Fountas, Siopis, Retsos, Masouras, Sokratis, Ninis, Tzolakis, Douvikas, Pavlidis, Limnios, Dioudis, Giannoulis, Kourfalidis, K.Papadopoulos Apparently Baldock is very close to getting his citizenship. https://www.sport24.gr/football/mpalntok-gia-ethniki-ellados-eimai-mia-evdomada-makria-apo-tin-dieythetisi-ton-leptomereion.9581444.html?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=eb&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1648839167
  5. Some of you guys are not understanding how damaging one player can be on the field like Bakasetas. The guy provides nothing for this team. He is no Fortounis that’s for sure. I understand that we need better midfielders than Siopis and Bouchalakis but they aren’t that bad and we haven’t got anyone better apart from Alexandropoulos who is by far our best CM. That CAM position is such an important position we can’t afford to put someone like Bakasetas there. Again he offers nothing and he’s slow. He is the main reason why we looked awful in attack. We played better in the 1st half agianst Romania without him and then he comes on for the 2nd half and we have no attack at all. Some of you that think Bakasetas isn’t the problem you need to open your eyes and realise what your watching. Yes, there are others that are not good enough but Bakasetas is by far the reason why we struggle in attack. All our opportunities and possible chances go to waste as soon as he touches the ball. We also have Pelkas and Mantalos who are better than him. It’s unacceptable to start him and name him captain. That’s a disgrace.
  6. If we start Bakasetas in the nations league and the euro qualifiers then expect the same thing to happen as last time, 2nd place in nations league and no qualification to the euros. The guy is by far the reason to our problems. Just doesn’t do anything and when he does he loses the ball or misplaces a pass…
  7. Interesting take but I’ve seen us play worse. It wasn’t the best game either. What this game proved again is what a bad influence Bakasetas is to the team. When he came on we looked worse in attack. He was not involved either and when he was he ruined some opportunities. I don’t think he is a bad person but as a player he doesn’t cut it for Greece. Without him I think we look like a better team. If we add Manolas, Fortounis and Galanopoulos to the mix with who played today like Mavropanos, Tsimikas, Alexandropoulos and Giakoumakis then we are on the right foot. Players like Bouchalakis, Mantalos, Pelkas and Hatzidiakos have a place in this team but I wouldn’t start them over the others I mentioned.
  8. I was happy with Siopis performance this game, I just wish he had more long accurate passes in his game and vision as he would be a solid defensive midfielder for us. He’s a pitbull so he will keep bugging and pressing the opposition. Like the commentator said you need a midfielder like Siopis in your team.
  9. We looked good in the first half. Rota is better going forward than defending. Needed to play Alexandropoulos at least in the beginning of the 2nd half. The guy has it all. As soon as Bakasetas came on in the 2nd half our attack became worse. The guy just doesn’t cut it. Pelkas did ok should’ve made better decisions in attack but he and Mantalos are much better than Bakasetas. I don’t know why he put Douvikas on the RW he doesn’t play there. I think once Manolas comes back, Tzavellas should be out of the team. Fortounis has been playing for Olympiakos B and is slowly coming back. Once he comes back Bakasetas should be out of the team aswell.
  10. Having both these guys in the midfield would be big for Greece.
  11. If we see a midfield of Bouchalakis, Bakasetas and Siopis then it’s pointless. Might aswell mix it up, give Alexandropoulos 2 full 90 minute games. Give some time to Kourfalidis too.
  12. This is the goal Kourfalidis scored 2 weeks ago for Cagliari u19… watch from minute 1.03. https://youtu.be/yuIHZqQHTII
  13. Would’ve liked to have seen Lamprou, I’ve always rated him. Thank you Alphonse 👍 someone else who thinks Fetfatzidis can still offer something. Would’ve liked to have a mostly different squad but what can you do. I hope he realises who deserves to be there and who doesn’t. Happy to see Kourfalidis in the team. I would like to see what he offers.
  14. I’ve watched every Greece game and I know what I’m seeing. If you think Bakasetas is the answer for Greece then I wonder if you want the best for the national team… If you can’t connect your good club form to the national team then I don’t want them in the team, it’s simple. Bakasetas might do well in Turkey but most of his games for Greece haven’t been good enough for me. I’ve seen Ninis play for Volos and he still shows glimpses of the player he is known to be. Excellent passing and vision and reads the game well. Just like how Kyriakos Papadopoulos shows glimpses of brilliance when he played for the national team. Fetfatzidis came on for 5 minutes against Bosnia last year and made Greece win by making there defender score an own goal in the last few minutes. During that time he was doing very well for Aris and was never chosen after the Bosnia game. Again I watch every game the national team plays and I know what works and what doesn’t work. This team has a lot of determination and drive but lacks quality and talent in crucial positions the team needs. Especially in the midfield. Fetfa and Ninis have done a lot better for the national team in the past yet some people don’t acknowledge that and don’t look at that as something that should be brought back. Why not try them again and see what they can do?
  15. You say Bakasetas is the best Greek player in Europe based on what exactly lol?? If anyone’s the most inform and that’s Greek it’s either Vlachodimos or Mavropanos. Mavropanos is having a great season in Germany and Vlachodimos is doing well in the champions league. What is Bakasetas doing? He’s inconsistent in the Turkish league… He’s been for the most part awful for Greece anyways. He was only captain under JVS and no one else. JVS even preferred Stafylidis captain but he got injured, so Bakasetas got it. You say there are 33 players better than Fetfa and Ninis but can’t even come up with 1 player better and back it up. You still haven’t given me a reason why Bakasetas and the others should play instead. Ninis has been playing as a CM for Volos for a while but only recently has started playing CAM again. We haven’t got a CM that is creative from deep in the midfield. Kourbelis, Zeca and Bouchalakis aren’t creative. Why is it so controversial when someone mentions Fetfa or Ninis on here…
  16. Why not give them a chance and see what they got. What have Bakasetas, Mantalos etc, done for Greece. We haven’t made a tournament with them playing. Those 5 specific players I mentioned took us to major tournaments. If Mavrias could make this squad being a bench player in Cyprus then why not give Ninis and Fetfa another chance. They are also playing every week. I’m all for playing the young guys but when you have players like Kourbelis and Bakasetas in the side that can’t create chances then why not give Ninis and Fetfa another chance who are known to create chances and also have the skill too. They still have something to offer. Your acting like we have players better than them and we actually don’t. Give me a real reason why these players shouldn’t play in the team and why Bakasetas, Kourbelis etc should?
  17. I agree 100%. These should be the guys that should lead the next generation. I believe these are the only experienced players that should be in the team.
  18. I’m happy they are coming back, I hope we start fresh now and that every player will be looked at, even players that haven’t been on the radar for a while like Fetfa and Ninis. It won’t to give everyone a chance to see what they got. I know by mentioning those 2 players some people won’t like it haha. If you have quality at any age you should be considered in the team. Those 3 CBs are in there 30s now but they all still have quality so they should be involved.
  19. Apparently by Monday or Tuesday.
  20. I still think Sokratis can be an option for Greece. I’d take him in the team over Tzavellas any day. Might even put him captain, he has more leadership characteristics than any of our current players. He always gave 100% for Greece. But now that Mavropanos has been in great form and with Manolas and Siovas coming back I don’t know if he should be starting ahead of these players. I’d still have him in there though. Same with Kyriakos Papadopoulos if he’s healthy. He can still offer something too.
  21. Should be at leoforos but Volos stadium is still decent.
  22. That’s what I’ve heard aswell. Also he will apparently call up 40 players for the friendlies. Some of these players are players JVS banned from the team like Manolas, Kitsiou etc. Also he will call up players no one would expect. Sounds very interesting.
  23. Let’s assume that everyone is back and available this is what I hope Poyet would do. He likes the 4-3-3. So I hope he picks something like this: Vlachodimos Masouras Manolas Mavropanos Tsimikas Galanopoulos Fortounis Alexandropoulos Masouras Giakoumakis Tzolis
  24. I think player selections for Greece is the biggest thing we need to get right to be successful in my opinion. Let’s just say Greece were a club and not a country, and there were transfers and selling involved. The positions we would need to upgrade are RB, CDM/CM, and CAM. These specific positions along with the tactics that were employed by JVS hurt our chances of qualifying. Bakakis, Mavrias, Zeca, Kourbelis, Bouchalakis and Bakasetas are not good enough nor will they bring Greece to a major tournament again. I would drop these players completely out of the team just like how Samaris was dropped for the last couple of years. Also playing Stafylidis and Tzavellas at CB or in the the team in general doesn’t help either. As they are not needed as we have plenty of top quality CBs and LBs to choose from. What I’m hoping for is that Poyet, recognises that these positions need upgrading and the players have that played in these positions are not good enough. The only player I would keep from that group would be Bouchalakis as he can be more serviceable then the other midfielders we have. We need Fortounis and Galanopoulos to come back and start for this team. We need to try different options at RB until we get it right with like Kitsiou, Kotsiras and Masouras. Also if we play players in the right positions and play our most skilful and fastest players then we can get to a major tournament I believe.
  25. I don’t know how Bakasetas is valued at that price. In my opinion he was one of the reasons we couldn’t beat teams less than us. Along with JVS tactics and other poor selections. I’ve noticed Sokratis is not even in the top 20 of most valuable Greek players in that list. I hope we bring back Manolas, Sokratis and Siovas so we don’t see players like Tzavellas in the squad anymore. I read Poyet was impressed with Ioannidis of PAO who scored against AEK this past weekend. He’s not a bad striker and should be given a chance but I see Giakoumakis and Douvikas ahead of him as our best strikers.
