  1. Sakkari is playing in her second WTA Indian Springs Final after a long 5 plus hour match stopped twice from rain delays, beating Coco Guaff 6-4,6-7 (5-7), 6-2. It's going to be a rematch from 2022 against Iga Swiatek. This competition is dubbed as the "Fifth Grand Slam".

  2. Frantzeskakis won Greece's third bronze medal of the day with a mark of 74.96m. First time ever Greece ends up with three medals in the same calendar year of the European Throwing Cup. Tomorrow, the only athlete who could win a medal is Kyriazis. It all depends if he can rediscover his form from 2017, throwing over 80 meters on a consistent bases. Mouzenidis will likely not medal since he can't throw over 20 meters. His progression is very slow and isn't showing signs he has what it takes to be an elite shot putter.

  3. Schedule for the Greek athletes (Local time in Portugal)

    Saturday, March 9
10:00 Hammer Throw Men U23 Final - Dousakis
    11:55 Shot Put Women U23 Final A - Dragomirova
14:00 Javelin Throw Women Final A - Tzengko
14:55 Hammer Throw Men Final A - Frantzeskakis, Anastasakis
16:20 Shot Put Women Final B - Maggoulia
18:00 Discus Throw Women U23 Final - Alexeeva

    Sunday, March 10
09:30 Discus Throw Men U23 Final - Adamakis
11:45 Discus Throw Women Final B - Anagnostopoulou
12:15 Hammer Throw Women Final B - Kosmidou
15:25 Javelin Throw Men Final A - Kyriazis
16:00 Shot Put Men Final A - Mouzenidis

  4. In the European Throwing Cup, I believe Greece will get 2 medals. The only time Greece won 2 medals in the same year of this competition was 2003 (Alexandros Papadimitriou - silver Steliana Tsikouna - bronze) and 2017 (Chrysoula Anagnostopoulou - bronze Paraskevas Baltzavaltis - bronze)

  5. Karalis seems to perform very well indoors. It's funny he has yet to qualify in the finals in either the European or World Championships. His bronze medal is much tougher to achieve than Filippidis did in 2014 when he won gold in Sopot, Poland without much of top stars in that compeition. Karalis had more competition and fought against the top athletes in pole vault like Duplantis, Kendricks, Nielsen, Obiena, etc.

As for Tentoglou, I think he is due to achieve that Greek National Record outdoors. He will need plenty of meets to perform to have any chance. I love to see him repeat as Olympic Champion which has not happened since Carl Lewis from 1984-1996, 4 titles in the row.

  6. Karalis gets the bronze medal at the men's pole vault finishing at 5.85 m, which is his season's best.
Greece finishes the competition with 2 medals. A great way to end this. Next stop will be the European Athletics Championship in Rome, Italy.

  7. Stefanidi finished 7th place at 4.55 m, her best days are over.
Tsiamis finished 14th place at 15.95 m, he should retire for good.
Pesiridou finished 34th place at 8.28 sec, never had a chance to advance past the heats.

Karalis is our last Greek athlete to compete in Glasgow, he will need go over 5.85 to stand a chance at a medal. The heights in the men's pole vault today will be 5.50, 5.65, 5.75, 5.85, 5.90.

  8. Tentoglou is a two time World Indoor Champion! He beat Italy's Mattia Furlani on countback, both of them finished at 8.22, Tentglou bettered him with the second best jump at 8.19 to Furlani's 8.10. Carey McLeod of Jamaica made it interesting after landing 8.21 on his fifth jump to settle for bronze.

In track, Douvalidis finished 27th place overall at 7.79 sec
Emmanouilidou finished 28th place overall at 7.27 sec
She was a bit unlucky, she could have taken third place and automatic spot to the semifinals just losing out to Poland's Magdalena Stefanowicz by 0.01 sec (7.26).

  9. 12 Greek athletes are going to Leiria, Portugal for the European Throwing Cup

  11. The Greek athletes indoor season's best for 2024

    Ioannis Nyfantopoulos (60 meters) - 6.68
    Kostas Douvalidis (60 meters hurdles) - 7.76
Emmanuel Karalis (Pole Vault) - 5.72 (has one more meet to compete this Saturday)
Miltiadis Tentoglou (Long Jump) - 8.26
Katerina Stefanidi (Pole Vault) - 4.64
Tatiana Gusin (High Jump) - 1.91
    Polyniki Emmanouilidou (60 meters) - 7.24
    Elisavet Peseridou (60 meters hurdles) - 8.24

  12. That's a pretty good group of athletes there. Sadly, we will only see 1 medal from Tentoglou. Karalis can win a medal if he can reach 5.90 m, which would be a new NR indoor for him. It will be interesting to see how Emmanouilidou, Gusin and Nyfantopoulos will all do in their World Indoor debut.
