  2. Some new rules in this competition. So I found out it is after all bottom 3 gets relegated. Top three gets the medals. In the throwing and horizontal jumping disciplines, all 16 athletes will get 3 jumps or throws. Top 8 advances for 2 more attempts. Top 4 does the final attempt. In the vertical jump disciplines, four misses and you are done. Not the usual rules where you go over a height and advance further. In the hurdles and sprints, there will be 2 heats. They are placed into that heat according to the athletes season's best. If Greece finishes around 12th or 13th place overall, we will be in good shape.
  3. Greece is going to struggle big time since most of our male athletes in track events will not finish above the bottom 3 or 4. Only our male athletes in field events have to make up it's huge amount of points. Same goes with the women with the exception Poliniki will thrive in the 100 and 200 meters. Some of our female athletes in the field event should do OK. Will see.
  4. Norway is competing in the first division replacing Belarus. So, I believe bottom 4 countries will be relegated.
  5. The national team for the 2023 European Teams Championship in Silesia, Poland. Η ελληνική αποστολή Άνδρες 100 μ. Γιάννης Νυφαντόπουλος 200 μ. Γιάννης Γρανιτσιώτης 400 μ. 6. Poliniki Emmanouilidou broke both of her PBs in the 100 and 200 meters in Serres (also under 23 Greek national records) to put her into consideration for the World Championship in Budapest. 100 meters - Previous PB 11.43 New PB 11.21 200 meters - Previous PB 23.18 New PB 22.94
  7. He finished 82.17 in the Serres meet today. He is back on track. He needs 85.20 to pass the entry standard for Budapest.
  8. August 2 is the official date for the deadline on athletes who are locked in for the competition. I got the previous date incorrect. The World Athletics website has a section (Stats Zone) under Road to Budapest 23 where you can find a provisional list of athletes who are going to the World Championships. It is updated every Wednesday until August 2.
  9. Only 20 years old, Dimitris Pavlidis broke the Greek National Record in men's discus throw at 64.90, breaking Savvas Panavoglou's 21 year old record of 63.18.
  10. Sakkari seems to play so well at the Indian Wells Masters She is in the semifinals after a nice comeback win against Kvitova. She wants to return to the finals like last year, but first she has to get by Sabalenka (who is red hot during the 2023 season).
  11. Elina Tzengko won gold at the European Throwing Cup at 63.65 She became the first female Greek athlete to win gold at the event, 2 years ago Christos Frantzeskakis won gold in Split, Croatia in the U23 hammer throw.
  12. 11 Greeks are competing at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal Ioannis Korakidis, Ivan Menglebey (Men's Hammer Throw - Group B) Orestias Dousakis (Men's Under 23 Hammer Throw) Tasos Latiflari (Men's Shot Put - Group A) Odysseus Mouzenidis (Men's Shot Put - Group B) Chrisoula Anagnostopoulou (Women's Discus Throw - Group A) Maria Magoulia (Women's Shot Put - Group B) Elina Tzengko (Women's Javelin Throw - Group A) Afroditi Maniou (Women's Javelin Throw - Group B) Stavroula Kosmidou (Women's Under 23 Hammer Throw) Sofia Kessidi (Women's Under 23 Discus Throw)
  13. The upcoming World Athletics Championships will be at Budapest, Hungary on August 19-27, 2023. Here are some of the Greek athletes who passed the entry standard dating back from July 31, 2022. The deadline for the world rankings to end is on July 30, 2023. Entry standards are in parenthesis. Miltiadis Tentoglou 8.41 (8.25) Katerina Stefanidi 4.75 (4.71) Emmanouil Karalis 5.86 (5.81) Christos Frantzeskakis 78.20 (78.00) Elina Tzengko 65.81 (63.80) Antigoni Drisbioti 1:28:12 (20 km 1:29:20) 2:41:58 (35 km 2:51:30)
  14. Silver for Karalis at 5.80, only that first miss at 5.60 prevented him from getting gold. But a great effort overall. Guttormsen won gold for Norway at 5.80 as well, while Lisek of Poland also gets silver at the same height. No bronze medal was awarded.
  15. Thing is Wilma Murto now won European Indoor title to go with the outdoor from last year and she did it by breaking her Finnish National Record. She is now the new "Katerina Stefanidi". : D
  16. Pesiridou didn't start her race, she picked up a leg injury during training. What else is new? After Stefanidi missed out on a bronze medal today, hopefully we could see 2 gold medals to end this competition on a high note.
  17. Karalis went perfect in qualification, reached the automatic spot of 5.75 Q and will be competing Sunday for the finals. He is looking really good.
  18. Congratulations to Nikos Adrikopoulos in getting the silver medal. I knew from my heart he was determined to show he can make those big jumps when needed in critical moments. I also read that Dimitris Tsiamis could have won a medal as well had that last jump counted as a legal one (he was over 16.50). He was protesting to the judges and video replay showed his toe just touched the plasticine.
  19. Karalis will be competing for a final spot in the men's pole vault later this evening. The automatic qualifying spot is 5.75. Top 8 with the best performance will qualify. It is possible more than 8 can get in depending on the number of athletes who have successfully pass the highest mark. Nyfantopoulos will be racing in Heat 2. He will need to run better than his PB of 6.73 in order to qualify for the semifinals. In the hurdles, Douvalidis will be racing in Heat 4, must improve on his 7.91 since only 16 athletes advance instead of 24 from the sprints. Pesiridou racing in Heat 4 while Karagianni in Heat 2. Pesiridou has a SB of 8.12 and will need to improve that. Karagianni has a PB of 8.18 and she needs to improve on that time in order to have any chance on advancing into the semifinals. Stefanidi is scheduled to compete on Saturday while Tentoglou on Sunday.
  20. Results from Friday's morning session Miltiadis Tentoglou finished 2nd with 8.03 Q (Men's Long Jump) Ekaterini Stefanidi finished 3rd with 4.55 q (Women's Pole Vault) Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou finished 15th with 4.30 DNQ Irini Vassiliou finished 19th with 53.71 DNQ (Women's 400 Meters) Adrianna Ferra finished 23th with 55.29 SB DNQ Spyridoula Karydi finished 10th with 13.60 SB DNQ (Women's Triple Jump) Polyniki Emmanouilidou finished 8th with 7.26 PB Q (Women's 60 Meters Heats) Rafailia Spanoudaki finished 29th with 7.43 DNQ Emmanouilidou needs to break another PB in order to have a great opportunity to reach the finals. The other two was expected to qualify without any problems.
  21. Results from Thursday's events Christos Kotitsas finished 25th at 1:50.82 (Men's 800 Meters) DNQ Anastasia Marinakou finished 20th at 9:22.35 (Women's 3000 Meters) DNQ Nikos Andrikopoulos finished 6th at 16.39 SB (Men's Triple Jump) q Dimitris Tsiamis finished 7th at 16.26 q Andreas Pantazis finished 12th at 16.06 DNQ Both are competing tomorrow in the finals

  23. I will be keeping an eye on two youngsters in the track events. Anais Karagianni and Polyniki Emmanouilidou. Both are very capable to get personal bests. In these competitions, I have more faith with the young athletes under 25 than the veterans who typically underperforms.
  24. They added Kostas Douvalidis and Adrianna Ferrea to the roster since two athletes had to retire from taking part in the indoor competition which adds the total to 19.
  25. 17 Greek athletes will be taking part in the 2023 European Indoor Championships Men's 60m : Yannis Nyfantopoulos (GS Eleftherios Venizelos) 800m. : Christos Kotitsas (ASS Alexandros Macedonia) Height : Antonis Merlos (PAOK) Pole vault : Emmanuel Karalis (OSFP) Length : Miltos Tendoglou (GS Kifissia) Triple jump : Dimitris Tsiamis (OSFP), Nikos Andrikopoulos (Aminias Mesogion), Andreas Pantazis (AO Megaron) Women's 60m : Raphaela Spanoudaki (GS Ilioupoli), Poliniki Emmanouilidou (ASS Alexandros Makedonia) 400m.: Irini Vassiliou (Ameinias Mesogeion) 3,000m.: Anastasia Marinakou (PAO) 60m. pole vault : Elisavet Pesiridou (GS Ilioupolis), Anais Karagianni (AEK) Pole vault : Katerina Stefanidi (AO Filotheis), Nikol Kyriakopoulou (AGES Kamiros 2009) Triple jump : Spyridoula Karydi (AO Kallistos)
