  1. Elina Tzengko won gold at the European Throwing Cup at 63.65 She became the first female Greek athlete to win gold at the event, 2 years ago Christos Frantzeskakis won gold in Split, Croatia in the U23 hammer throw.

  3. The upcoming World Athletics Championships will be at Budapest, Hungary on August 19-27, 2023. Here are some of the Greek athletes who passed the entry standard dating back from July 31, 2022. The deadline for the world rankings to end is on July 30, 2023. Entry standards are in parenthesis. Miltiadis Tentoglou 8.41 (8.25) Katerina Stefanidi 4.75 (4.71) Emmanouil Karalis 5.86 (5.81) Christos Frantzeskakis 78.20 (78.00) Elina Tzengko 65.81 (63.80) Antigoni Drisbioti 1:28:12 (20 km 1:29:20) 2:41:58 (35 km 2:51:30)
  4. Silver for Karalis at 5.80, only that first miss at 5.60 prevented him from getting gold. But a great effort overall. Guttormsen won gold for Norway at 5.80 as well, while Lisek of Poland also gets silver at the same height. No bronze medal was awarded.
  5. Thing is Wilma Murto now won European Indoor title to go with the outdoor from last year and she did it by breaking her Finnish National Record. She is now the new "Katerina Stefanidi". : D
  6. Pesiridou didn't start her race, she picked up a leg injury during training. What else is new? After Stefanidi missed out on a bronze medal today, hopefully we could see 2 gold medals to end this competition on a high note.
  7. Karalis went perfect in qualification, reached the automatic spot of 5.75 Q and will be competing Sunday for the finals. He is looking really good.
  8. Congratulations to Nikos Adrikopoulos in getting the silver medal. I knew from my heart he was determined to show he can make those big jumps when needed in critical moments. I also read that Dimitris Tsiamis could have won a medal as well had that last jump counted as a legal one (he was over 16.50). He was protesting to the judges and video replay showed his toe just touched the plasticine.
  9. Karalis will be competing for a final spot in the men's pole vault later this evening. The automatic qualifying spot is 5.75. Top 8 with the best performance will qualify. It is possible more than 8 can get in depending on the number of athletes who have successfully pass the highest mark. Nyfantopoulos will be racing in Heat 2. He will need to run better than his PB of 6.73 in order to qualify for the semifinals. In the hurdles, Douvalidis will be racing in Heat 4, must improve on his 7.91 since only 16 athletes advance instead of 24 from the sprints. Pesiridou racing in Heat 4 while Karagianni in Heat 2. Pesiridou has a SB of 8.12 and will need to improve that. Karagianni has a PB of 8.18 and she needs to improve on that time in order to have any chance on advancing into the semifinals. Stefanidi is scheduled to compete on Saturday while Tentoglou on Sunday.
  10. The other two was expected to qualify without any problems.

  13. I will be keeping an eye on two youngsters in the track events. Anais Karagianni and Polyniki Emmanouilidou. Both are very capable to get personal bests. In these competitions, I have more faith with the young athletes under 25 than the veterans who typically underperforms.
  14. They added Kostas Douvalidis and Adrianna Ferrea to the roster since two athletes had to retire from taking part in the indoor competition which adds the total to 19.
  15. 17 Greek athletes will be taking part in the 2023 European Indoor Championships Men's 60m : Yannis Nyfantopoulos (GS Eleftherios Venizelos) 800m. : Christos Kotitsas (ASS Alexandros Macedonia) Height : Antonis Merlos (PAOK) Pole vault : Emmanuel Karalis (OSFP) Length : Miltos Tendoglou (GS Kifissia) Triple jump : Dimitris Tsiamis (OSFP), Nikos Andrikopoulos (Aminias Mesogion), Andreas Pantazis (AO Megaron) Women's 60m : Raphaela Spanoudaki (GS Ilioupoli), Poliniki Emmanouilidou (ASS Alexandros Makedonia) 400m.: Irini Vassiliou (Ameinias Mesogeion) 3,000m.: Anastasia Marinakou (PAO) 60m. pole vault : Elisavet Pesiridou (GS Ilioupolis), Anais Karagianni (AEK) Pole vault : Katerina Stefanidi (AO Filotheis), Nikol Kyriakopoulou (AGES Kamiros 2009) Triple jump : Spyridoula Karydi (AO Kallistos)
  16. 2 weeks from now the European Indoor Championship will be at Istanbul, Turkey. SEGAS is projected to have 11 athletes going to the closed season competition. The athletes I think who will be participating are : MENS Emmanuel Karalis (Pole Vault) Miltiadis Tentoglou (Long Jump) Dimitris Tsiamis (Triple Jump) Andreas Pantazis (Triple Jump) Nikos Andrikopoulos (Triple Jump) WOMENS Rafailia Spanoudaki (60 m) Polyniki Emmanouilidou (60 m) Anais Karagianni (60 m Hurdles) Elisavet Pesiridou (60 m Hurdles) Irini Vassiliou (400 m) Katerina Stefanidi (Pole Vault)
  17. Emmanuel Karalis broke Kostas Filippidis Greek National Indoor Record this past Saturday at the Peace and Friendship stadium in Piraeus. 5.86 and has his sights set for a medal at the 2023 European Indoor Championships (Istanbul).
  18. I found out the rules for the two leg playoffs 8 third place Champions League teams vs. 8 runner up group Europa League teams 8 third place Europa League teams vs. 8 runner up group Conference League teams Both of them will be played Feb. 17 and 24
  19. So in the World Cup playoffs for UEFA teams two additional teams Austria and Czech Republic get in because of Nations League results to go with the other 10 group runner ups. If Greece had won it's group from the Nations League and get the top two points, they would have took part in the playoffs?
  20. If Greece finish 2nd, they go to the playoffs?
  21. LOL Qatar isn't a dump country, it is pretty nice over there. Let's just focus on Euro 2024 in Germany and World Cup 2026 in North America (USA/Mexico/Canada).
  22. Greece should be up 1-0 and not down 1-0. Masouras goal should have stand, it was a tight one, but I firmly believe he is onside, otherwise blow the whistle dead if the refs suspect he was offside. What a BS penalty that was! The Spanish player went down like as if he was shot! Giannoulis was trying to clear the ball and it barely gazed the player.
  23. Standings Sweden 15 pts 7 games 7+ GD Spain 13 pts 6 games 8+ GD Greece 9 pts 6 games 1+ GD
  24. Despite the fact that UEFA organizes the European Qualifiers, they use the FIFA World Cup rules to determine the tie-breaker. So, goal difference will determine who qualifies for the auto World Cup entry or playoffs.
