What's the problem with u and fckin lazaros he sucks.

Mitroglou is gonna be a big miss. Biggest ones in my opinion will be Retsos at a 3 CB scheme and Manolas.

I think we can scrap a 0-0 there.

I think Mitroglou is a misfit in this scheme. Not a big loss. He's lazy and his play is uninspired. We don't have someone in the midfield who can distribute the ball well enough to have a poacher in the lineup.

The coach better field the best eleven and don’t take them lightly. Earlier today Scotland got destroyed by light weights Kazakhstan 3-0.

Greece started that trend a couple of years ago with Faroe Islands.

Socrates- out vs Liechtenstein and 50/50 vs Bosnia

    Manolas -Out for both games

I would hope Sokratis is ready for Bosnia. I believe he will be. Manolas missing another crucial game. The backline, which is our strongest and deepest position, by far, is also our most fragile. Once again depleted, with the likes of Manolas, Papadopoulos, Retsos, Torosidis, Stafylidis and perhaps Sokratis out. It's becoming a bad joke.

I hope we do well but I think we need a coach that knows the way football is played this decade not someone like anastasiadis. I hope we don't struggle to beat Liechenstein

I'm worried about Anastasiadis because, like Mourinho, his philosophy often doesn't translate to the new generation of footballers. EPO consistently makes grave mistakes.

Is anyone else a little nervous about this first game that every seems to be overlooking? We’ve seen this team with its worst efforts against these type of teams.. if we are tied after 45 I will be shitting my pants.. An early goal is key, the longer it stays scoreless into the match this where we start to panic and make stupid mistakes..

I am a bit nervous, but this will be brought up pre-game in the dressing room and I think our players will be ready.

I think he's letting the Arsenal thing get to his head. If he was on a team like Dortmund I don't think he would retire like that. That's stuff that English, French, etc. players do. Under dog teams like us the players play till they retire ie Karagounis taking us to knockouts beating Russia when he was 35.

Sokratis is very frustrated with the NT. The fans not showing support. The greek players with loser mentalities. It's just not fun for him anymore and he feels like he's putting water in a hole with a bucket. I hope he changes his mind but at the same time him publically saying that also is a bad attitude. Much like Messi doing that with Argentina. whereas Ronaldo never has thought of stepping down from Portugal. Ronaldo is always wanting to play for it all and takes responsibility. That's why for me I like Ronald much more then Messi.Ronaldo lifts everyone around him. Whereas Messi is passive aggressive and trys to get player he doesn't like away from the NT.

I agree that Ronaldo is the ultimate. Karagounis as well, was with the NT until 37.

I see Sokratis much closer to Ronaldo than to Messi in terms of attitude though. Ronaldo always had a team around him. A team like he was used to at ManU and Real Madrid, no, and that must have been frustrating in its own right. Nevertheless, the frustration Sokratis is feeling with the stagnating/declining Greek NT, infected with politics and ego, has surely taken a toll. I think Sokratis is more irritated with EPO and the coaches they hire and money they invest, more than anything.

Then don’t play. Simple. Put someone else in with a better attitude. I see this all over. Guys giving up because things don’t go their way. Sucking out cuz they’re not doing well. Oh well. Life’s not fair. Deal with it. No one blamed him when lukaku destroyed him in that thing goal. Look in the mirror.

He's just being honest. I understanding that those aren't comments you want to be hearing from your captain, but he does care. He's frustrated with the state of the NT and wants success.

Also I don't put too much blame on him for that goal. What was he to do with a beast like Lukaku in the box without fouling him? It was a perfect placement from the big man.

This will be the last time Socratis wears the NT jersey. Also sounds like he doesn't really believe in the team and its players....

Bittersweet from our captain. The last kick at the can for a generational Greek talent. Looking forward to seeing him with the armband and hopefully lead us to the EURO.

We need a midfield tactician, Fortounis is hit or miss with the NT. Our other mids dont have the creativity to play attractive attacking football thus we see wasteful passes and using way to many long balls.

The midfield is really a mess. We are OK at keeping possession, but, for the life of us, we cannot find a way into the opposition's box; not even versus the minnows. That's why we resolve to wishful long balls and crosses, hoping for the perfect drop or rebound. We need a guy that isn't afraid to take on defenders and to force them to back off a bit. That's the only way we will be able to create space and runs into the danger area.

The current squad has 7 players who have played 1 or 0 games, 11 players who played 5 or less games and 15 who have played less then 10. The only experience on the team with more than 35 games is Soc, Mitroglou, Fortounis and Samaris.

We need to find goal scorers other than Mitroglou.

For the life of me, what is so difficult for the coach to understand. Mitroglou should not be a shoe-in at the striker position. We cannot support a poacher because our attacking midfield is impotent. They cannot keep the ball on the ground, take on defenders or find holes to open up play. Mitroglou's lethargic style does no one any favours either. It's just awful tactics having this mix of players out there and hoping for production. It's like trying to stick a square peg in a round hole.

  12. The Greek NT has depth but is gravely flawed. We are very skilled and deep at the CB position, but even there we are suffering with injuries. Goalkeeping is deep. The rest of the roster is deep but average. We have 8-10 guys that can produce the same result in the midfield, but, unfortunately, that result is pretty dull. No cohesiveness, consistent wishful long-balls, lazy, isolated striker, lack of creativity and game-breaking ability, are all things that plagued this team for years.

Manolas injury is serious I agree. The others I mentioned are terrible.

Retsos and Papadopoulos are good but frustratingly injury prone. Lazaros is still NT calibre, especially considering we start the likes of Mantalos and Bakasetas. Torosidis and Pelkas got consistent minutes during the Nations League campaign. Whichever way you put it, we are still missing a handful of NT players due to injury.

I’m Greek also file. But excuses are lame. Especially the injury excuse. And the players you mentioned? Lazaros? 1 goal in 117 games! Lmao. Pelkas? Hasn’t had a sniff. Papadopoulos? Lmao. He turns a doorknob and is injured for a year. He hasn’t been relevant since he was 20. Excuses are lame. Especially when you’re making them before the game.

These are still players that, if healthy, would be on the NT. Simply stating facts, regardless if you consider them lame excuses. Bosnia is healthy. Look at their Wikipedia for quick reference. None of their important players that have been called up in the last 12 months are injured except GK Bergovic. Manolas injury is a serious loss and, like I stated above, the rest are all NT calibre players.

if you look at my starting 11 it didn't include mantalos or baka

all these players are in form and good enough. Mantalos is really good if he plays as CAM or CM. Off the bench for Fortounis if Fortounis gets gassed or Pelkas. Torosidis also good off the bench for 60 mins. So 2 nice substitution options there. Koulouris can come on for Mitro too to confuse the oppositions defense with a different styled striker.

       mitroglou
    donis fortounis masouras
         zeca samaris
    koutris siovas sokratis bakakis
            odysseas

Wholeheartedly agree with your suggested XI, but you mentioned Torosidis and Pelkas as subs, however they have not been called up due to injury.

    BIG Bundesliga Super Debut!!

Antonis Aidonis, 17 year old centre-back makes his debut in Bundesliga, with Stuttgart, in a game v Wolfsburg, wearing jersey No23. Antonis is a key figure this season in the Stuttgart U19 squad making 17 apps in the U19 Bundesliga Youth. He has a professional contract with his club till 30.6.21.
Antonis is a key figure of the German U17 national squad (15 apps-3 goals)!!  Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany but can still play for Greece, the country of heritage.

Thanks for the update, Greekaroos. I've been trying to keep a bit of order and reserve individual threads for the most notable Greek players, mostly those who have featured for the National Team or who are regulars in the senior team of a big club. Aidonis isn't there yet so his progress can be discussed in the Other Greeks Abroad topic until he, hopefully, takes the next step and becomes a regular with Stuttgart and/or makes the NT.

Let’s just hope he plays Masouras and If not I don’t want to see Bakasetas he won’t help the NT and his recent form doesn’t merit a call up to the Ethniki.

Bakasetas and Mantalos fold under the pressure of the national team. Haven't played a good game in forever.

actually besides Manolas all of our starting 11 is in form and we have Siovas to patch it up who's in form. So slightly optimistic

I don't care how in form players like Bakasetas and Mantalos are, they cannot raise their game to European class. When was the last time they stood out for the National team? Not even vs the minnows...I have no faith in those two players; they just dont have it in them.

Player I have unalterable faith in: Sokratis (Manolas as well but he is injured)

Players that have the ability to elevate their game and hope to see all of them in the starting XI vs Bosnia: Fortounis, Siovas, Vlachodimos, Samaris, Donis

Zeca will run and work hard, fine. Koutris has ability. Hope to see him play.

Mitroglou if he gets service, and that's a big IF, can make a difference, but I've to written him off lately because of his laziness and the fact his teammates cannot get him the ball in the box. I would much rather give Koulouris the start.

Some of the players from the Greek league like Masouras, Bakakis, Siopis, Bouchalakis, Kourbelis, haven't shown much, but open to seeing more of them.

Two cypriot leaguers, Kolovos and Mavrias, had promise once upon a time, but can't expect much coming from that league. They were lazy call-ups by Athanasiadis IMO. Hope they prove me wrong, but I don't think they will see the pitch. We have in-form players in more competitive leagues around Europe that were unfortunately overlooked.

Valerianos and Risvanis, that's what you get when 5 NT calibre defenders are injured.

    2wgc7jt.jpg

Thanks for the rundown. Looks like Bosnia is fortunate enough to come into this tie nice and healthy. Greece, on the other hand, is missing their second best player in Kostas Manolas, and a number of other talented players than would have been considered for the starting XI, like Retsos, Papadopoulos, Torosidis, Stafylidis, Lazaros and Pelkas.
