  1. Disappointing to see such lack of urgency and imposition by the Greeks. They coasted for most of the match and played rather negative football considering they could taken more from this contest. I said this after the Gibraltar match: We are expected to win these games. Credit for getting the three points, but these matches are also meant to build killer instinct and impose dominance on the group. The fact we were simply content with the scoreline and preferred easily attempted but rarely executed long range strikes to pressing and breaking the Cypriot backline, is not the most encouraging sign leading up to matches vs Bosnia and Belgium.
  2. I don't think this is the best XI Skibbe can put together with the available players. Stafylidis in LDM over K Papadopoulos and Tachtsidis? Tzavellas over Holebas? Anyhow, I have confidence in our stars to see this one through.
  3. You`re talking about the next two matches, I'm looking at the big picture. Zeca isn`t a clear cut upgrade on Samaris or Tachtsidis, he just becomes another decent option in the midfield. More options isn`t a bad thing, but not at this price. Bottom line, this isn`t necessary.
  4. Zeca is not Greek, nor good enough to force an exception. He`s not even good enought to once make the Portugal bench in a friendly, now Greece is gonna compromise its dignity to bring him in to the National Team? I hope this never happens.
  5. Sokratis was BVB`s best defender last season. Hummels being better overall can be thoroughly argued, but this is no clear cut case. BVB is an elite club, right outside the group of the Bayerns, Reals and Barcelonas, etc. which have a squad of 11 + world class players. An elite club, on their end, has a few world class players surrounded by elites. Dortmund has three world class, one in each third of the field: Aubameyang, Reus and Sokratis. Then they have about 6 or 7 elite players complementing them.
  6. Fair enough about the ask anyone, but point remains. That is my opinion and it is evidently a widely shared one. I am not saying that Hummels went to Bayern over Sokratis solely because he is German or because it is a more prestigious transfer, but even if they were carbon copies of each other, Hummels is the sexier transfer for Bayern in Germany.
  7. I am not saying that our boys are better than the players mentioned above, albeit not far behind and arguably in the same class. What I will say is, referring to your point about these players` notoriety world wide is that they all grew up in massive footballing nations with top class academies which gave them the opportunity to stand out and the exposure to be scouted by top clubs. Our poor guys started at Apollon Petalidiou and Pannaxiakos before going to AEK in a Greek Super League with already little credibility in developing talent. I do not want to make this a topic about nationality, but there is a vivid contrast in the exposure our top talents get compared to that of players from Germany, Spain, Brazil, Italy, etc.
  8. Wenger is known not to overspend on players. If he felt that Manolas price was more than he was willing to spend and Mustafi, albeit a lesser player but with upside, came at a better price. then he would go for the latter.
  9. Manolas and Sokratis are better than any player you named in that second group. On top of that you say there are probably 4 or 5 you forgot...Ludicrous. They are solidly in the cream of the crop. It`s time to accept this and move on.
  10. It is well understood that Manolas and Sokratis are first tier, world class. Ask anyone in Italy and Manolas is in the same conversation as the 3 Juventus CBs. General consensus in Bundesliga is that Sokratis right behind Hummels and Boateng, very hard to argue otherwise. He is on their level there is no doubt and the reason Bayern got Hummels over Sokratis is because Hummels is a German with pedigree and the signing is perceived as more prestigious than signing the Greek.
  11. Played 90 minutes for Udinese in their 1-0 loss vs Sassuolo over the weekend.
  12. Beating Holland in a friendly is like beating Estonia in a WC qualifier, points-wise. That is why we barely moved up. Hope we can get some wins lined-up, because some of these teams ahead of us in the rankings are embarassing, including Albania.
  13. Is he fit to play today vs Besiktas? He wasn`t present on the weekend.
  14. Those wonder goals are a treat to watch and may earn him another start for forrest and maybe a call-up from Greece, but he will never establish himself unless he starts finishing in the box.
  15. Vellios has the makings of a very good striker. It is so disappointing that he struggles in the NT.
  16. I don't know who these players think they are at this point in time. Do they not know that they just came off, pound-for-pound, one of the worst qualifying campaigns in international football history? Not sure what they were thinking trying those wonder volleys that end up 30 meters too high, or little takounakia as if there on the training pitch. This should have been a statement game; one to set the tone and cement ourselves are group predators. Instead, it was a borderline embarrassment.
  17. This was a joke. The guys walking around, passing back, killing time as if they had a 1 goal lead vs weaker but capable opponent. Where is the hunger? Horrible. Estonia and Cyprus should be beating Gibraltar 4-1, not us. This lacklustre, lazy performance will come back to haunt us. Belgium may score 10; so may Bosnia. Pathetic.
  18. The dutch were under a lot of pressure from the organization, media and fans. They were trying. They did not want to lose at home. They were simply beaten, pure and simple. This may not have been their A team, but it was their B+, make no mistake.
  19. He should be playing for a bigger team, there`s no doubt about that. Hopefully this year is the step back he needs in order to take 3 steps forward next season. I'd love to see him at BVB alongside Sokratis.
  20. I read that Skibbe has sent scouts to both of Gibraltar`s friendly games. I'm so glad he is taking this game for granted. It is so important to instill a winning mindset from the get-go. Although qualifications stretch out a year, there are only 10 matches and just one team qualifies automatically. Every game, every goal, is important.
  21. I would love to see Toro in an Montreal Impact jersey, but I don`t think either side has much interest. I see him going to back to Olympiacos and perhaps another smaller Greek club to finish off his career. He has had a very good career and still has game left. Playing for one of the top clubs in Europe for a few years now. Surely one of the most important Greek players of the last decade.
  22. What a huge step backwards. Newly promoted Bundesliga side with no European football. Low profile, low prestige club.
