  1. On the third day of the championships, Greece failed to get any medals, but had two placements in the finals. Flora Redoumi finished 7th in the 60 meter hurdles, while the 4x100 meter relay, the Greek women's team finished 6th.
  2. Day two produced another bronze medal for Greece inthe World Championships in Budapest. Chrisopigi Devetzi finished third in women's triple jump with a jump of 14.73 meters. Another succes came in the women's 400 meters, when Fani Chalkia managed to qualify to the final, where she finished in 6th place with 52.90 seconds. In the qualifying rounds Chalkia broke the Greek record in 400 meters with 51.68 seconds.
  3. The first day of the World Indoor Championships brought a bronze medal for Greece. Georgios Theodoridis finished 3rd in the 60 meter dash final. During the first day of the competition two new Greek records were broken. First Fani Chalkia ran the 400 meter race in 51.77 seconds during the qualifying round, and qualified to the semifinals. LAter on Christos meletoglou broke his own Triple Jump record by jumping 16.79 meters. Unfortunately that was not enough to place him in the finals of the competition. The only other greek athlete that made finals was Chrisopigi Devetzi in the women's triple jump. She jumped 14.48 meters to make the finals. All the other Greek athletes produced disappointing results, and were disqualified from further competition.
  4. Can't find the results of the 2 friendlies anywhere, but Karataidis has announced the players that he will take with him to Portugal for the qualifying games of the European Championship. Greece is playing in a qualifying group with Portugal, Israel and Wales. the winner of the group will qualify to the final stage of the European U-17 championships that will take place in France in May of 2004.   5. Stavros Kouroupakis, the talented pole vaulter has been caught using steroids after a doping control test, which took place during the Greek Indoor Track & Field championships.

  9. In recent days there were some details emerging on what is being done to Toumba Stadium as part of the 2004 Olympics facelifts. This mostly concerns the 5-story building that is being constructed behind gates 1, 2 & 3: - The underground level is being re-inforced in order to support the 5 story building that is being constructed. - The ground level of the building will include the home team, visiting team, as well as game officials's dressing rooms. This level will also include rooms for visiting VIPs, and press. This section will also provide access for people with handicaps. - The 1st floor of the building will include a banquet hall for VIPs, toilets, as well as offices for PAE PAOK. - The 2nd level will include rooms used for press conferences, space for the press people, toilets, as well as space reserved for PAE PAOK. - The 3rd level will include 12 suites, bars, toilets, as well as a television studio and space reserved for press. - The 4th level will include 14 broadcast booths, as well as space reserved for radio/TV broadcast personel. This area will also include seating for 800 press people to watch the game. - Finally the 5th level is the metal roof that will cover the seats in gates 1,2, & 3.

  14. Hello Giorgo, and welcome to the forums. The squad list came from the EPO site (WWW.EPO.GR) Most players on the squad are youngsters from B' and C' Division clubs, or from the youth teams of the A' Division teams. I doubt very much that you will read or see anything about these players in the press, since the Greek press rarely provides information about the Greek youth teams.
  15. Well, the news obout the future of Toumba Stadium have to do with a plan by the present majority shareholders of the team Pagonis-Goumenos. Their plan is to demolish the existing stadium, and build a new modern stadium, which will accomodate between 32,000 - 35,000 fans. The new facility will also included shops and restaurants as well as VIP suites. According to the plan, the current stadium would be used until the 2004-05 season, following which it would be demolished. The new stradium replacing Toumba would be built by 2006. During the construction phase, PAOK will use Kaftanzoglio Stadium for their home games. Additionaly, the new owners are also planning on starting work on a new training athletic center, which will be located at Peristera. This location has been specifically requested by the PAOK coach, Aggelos Anastasiadis.
