  1. "The Greek attacker, on loan from Panathinaikos, sports a mullet straight out of the 1980s and is essentially an unreconstructed, old-fashioned centre-forward, bereft of skill or imagination. He's also dull as the river Ruhr off the pitch - going on long walks with his wife is his only known hobby - and doesn't exactly dazzle spectators on it. He contributes next to nothing to his team's game, wins the least challenges in the league and is flagged offside so often that assistant referees are in danger of developing tendonitis. Against Hannover last week he managed to stray offside five times in five minutes. He's the anti-Thierry Henry, both in a good and bad sense: his all-round game might be severely lacking but his finishing is world-class. His goals and the retro-cool of his Vokuhila-hair (vorne kurz, hinten lang - the German shlong) have firmly established him as a Greek god in Bochum, the club colloquially known as the greyest of all "grey mice" in Germany. Every time he scores, the Sirtaki booms out in the Rewirpower-Stadion. An ever increasing Greek contingent is attracted to the ground and this week he will coach a training session of Hellas Bochum, a local Greek women's team. Some of team-mates secretly begrudge his success and are convinced that he only sees the club as a stepping stone but they can't really complain: Gekas has become known as Bochum's "life insurance", as no club with the leading goal-scorer has ever been relegated in the league's history. Sadly for Bochum, they are set to lose their surprisingly prolific hitman either way. Their option to buy Gekas for ?700,000 is only valid if they stay up - but if they do, wealthier clubs will step in. "Fanis" is rumoured to have already agreed terms with Leverkusen, who are looking to replace the Liverpool-bound Andre Voronin. It has to be said that Gekas' mullet would only be a slight improvement on the Ukrainian's raver ponytail. But goals are still more important, even in the Beckham age." source
  2. Gekas is the perfect CF for our NT. We know now that he is playing in a better league that he can score against anyone. In fact, he is the only one who can play the position for our NT that plays counter-attack football. Gekas is quick, he is fast, he is strong, he is good with his head (for his height) and both feet, and he is very smart in the box. He is also more skilled than people give him credit for. His only drawback is that he does not work as hard outside the box, but he should not have to.
  3. thanks guys, I had forgotten about Machlas. Here are the stats I found: Gekas has 10 goals so far with Bochum in 21 games played. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats...d=69426&cc=5901 Stelios seems to have 9 goals as his best annual production with Bolton (2005-06). http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/profi...d=13055&cc=5901 Mahlas, the best I can find is the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikos_Machlas that says he scored a lot, but I can't find a breakdown by season.
  4. Good for Gekas! 10 goals with a middle of the run German team is excellent. He has shown that he deserves to be the NT starting striker. Does anyone know if any other Greek player abroad has scored more goals? I think he might have the record. I am happy for him, although I am bracing myself for more interviews with derogatory comments about Pao and the Greek league, and with praise for his good fortune, the superiority for the German league, fans, teams, etc.
  5. Gekas scored twice today. Bochum stats: http://www.vfl-bochum.de/vfl2006/saison200...n_statistik.php Gekas page at soccernet: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats...d=69426&cc=5901
  6. Hmmm, I haven't seen any interviews from Gekas in more than a week. He must not have scored.
  7. I am not sure if this was meant to be a joke. The video added by "Amanatidis18" and it's titled "Samaras the Greek Ronaldinhio"!!! It contains four or five nice moves by Samaras in various games. Then, at the very end it has the best one: Haristeas' scoring header against Portugal
  8. ziaka, I had a similar experience two months ago. They changed my GreekLanguage package and told me they can just change the packages whenever they want without my consent. I was interested in ERTsat and ERAsport only, but to get them I had to upgrade from my $36 a month to the $51 per month package since it was the only one that included ERAsport. I only did it because I complained enough that one of the managers I was able to speak with gave me two month credit for the difference between the two packages. Last week I called and downgraded to the Ant1 plus one (ERTsat) package, and they charged me $5 for downgrading. Now I will call and cancel all the packages. Instead I will get ERTsat only for half the money I pay now. They will charge me another $5 but I will be saving more on the monthly bill. Needless to say, I am disgusted at how Ant1 has tried to leverage the popularity of ERTsat, in order to make money. Thanks to everyone who posted the info.
  9. As long as we don't get any more ANT1 channels :P and as long as we get better package choices from DishNetwork, and every channel offered a-la-carte I will be happy.
  10. DKsat, that's a mean teaser :) What else do you know? Are you at liberty to discuss? (what channels? what changes?)
  11. Does anyone have the email, or a link to contact the reporter?
