  1. The way I saw it, Olympiacos played a great game and was inching towards an upset. The referee took away all the oomph out of Olympiacos' sails with that ridiculous red card that he gave Ousseynou Ba (82'). That just crippled them. In my opinion, Olympiacos played good and can exit the tournament with their head held high.
  2. All good points! And by no means do I consider myself being right. Just questioning things (like you are) and trying to make sense of what is happening around me. Back to the subject. Personally I would not put Mandela or Kolokotronis in the same boat as Koufodinas. I would not hold 17 November on the same level of moral equivalency as the Greek Revolution for Independence. But it definitely is worth discussing why not. Of course this is not going to happen in this single post, but a conversation that we can delve deeper into with time. I will outline my thoughts as time permits.
  3. Bummer! Just when I was hoping that Olympiacos was able (and going) to pull it off! In my opinion, the first goal was on Sa, the third on Olympiacos' defense - never closed in on Elneny.
  4. And that description was accurate, was it not? Those people were innocent in the eyes of Justice and under the laws of the country. Just because some people might consider them guilty of wrongdoing because they work for a different government, may be part of a different political system or believe in a different God, does not make it so. In modern society, we cannot have unqualified individuals acting as judge and executioner. Then we would all have a very short life span. 17 November did not refrain from having collateral casualties because of any sort of belief, standard or political philosophy. They did so because they needed public support and Greece's left wing fringe behind them. None of that would be possible if they had innocent bystanders paying the price for them being sloppy. And if the public was not behind them or just sympathize with them, they would not have lasted that long without being arrested and dismantled.
  5. Just noticed that on a page that @Dutch Eagle is working on, you mention: "He has been capped four times for the Ethniki sofar, scoring one goal in his second game, a friendly against Cyprus. " I think that since the article does not have any date references this information is a little confusing. The terms "sofar" doesn't help the reader understand the time referenced, since he doesn't know when that page was created or edited. I changed "Capped four times ...so far" to read: "As of February 2021, he has been capped four times for the Ethniki," If possible, I think we should reference time in a way that would allow for the article to appear accurate even after a few months or years. Otherwise, we'll have to remember to keep changing those references as information changes. That's OK for 1-5 articles, but when you have a bunch of 'em, it's a little difficult to keep up to date. If you can think of a better way to reference this type of information, please, by all means go ahead.
  6. Let us keep an eye as to whether Joe Biden delivers on the expectations set forth upon assuming leadership. From the Associated Press: Biden’s first 50 days: Where he stands on key promises Not bad for starters, but still some way to go.
  7. In the latest news on the subject, from The National Herald: Greek High Court Nixes Koufodinas’ Demand for Prison Transfer
  8. According to Greece's legal system he has been found guilty of murder (or assassination). You can call it what you want -- the end result is the same. He has deprived people of the right to live. Whether for political reasons or religious reasons or whatever reasons, depriving a human being of life is considered a punishable crime in modern society. Koufodinas has been fully aware of his actions and has not claimed insanity or other outside factors that would render him incapable of controlling his actions. He has not shown any remorse and has not repented for inflicting harm upon others. Should the country's laws not hold him accountable and punishable by whatever the legal and social system deems as a fair punishment? He is demanding it! It would have been more appropriate for him to beg for it but he give the impressions that his sense of entitlement does not allow him to acknowledge any wrongdoing -- hence his demand. If one considers 'honorable' the trade of 'murder for political reasons' , why does being 'honorable' not extend to paying the price of incarceration - when found guilty - for breaking laws and trampling on the rights of others? It's the honorable thing to do, isn't it? You play the game - you pay the price if caught! What political ideology denies a human the right to life? Alas, I don't have the answers to any of my questions.
  9. Biden to appointees: I'll fire you if you treat someone with disrespect. In his remarks to over a thousand of his appointees, President Joe Biden laid out what he expects from them and what kind of administration he will have.

  11. Joe Biden was inaugurated the 46th President of the United States of America. Let's start a topic to discuss his Presidency. This is his full inauguration speech:
  12. Nothing at this stage. We are all lucky (at least in the US) that this clown was totally incompetent. There is talk about implementing reforms, and passing laws that would protect the country and the constitution from this kind of abuse happening again. We'll have to wait and see. We're not in the clear yet.
  13. Sad, sad, sad moment in American history that has been in the making since 1999 (when Newt Gingrich served as the 50th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives). It culminated on Jan.6, 2021 at the end of Donald J. Trump's Presidential term. Unfortunately, we don't know yet if this is the end of an era or simply the beginning of something much-much worse. The Republican Party has morphed into the greatest danger for democracy in this country. Unless there is somebody that has the balls to steer the Party in a different direction and correct its course, the only thing that could save this country is if the Party were to split. Short of that, Democracy cannot exist if the losing Party refuses to acknowledge the results of an election.
  14. The Financial Times article is only available to subscribers. Too bad! 😞 Any other reference that you think would help us better understand the UK and its Brexit strategy is welcome.

  20. AEK dismantled! A collapse towards the end of the game.
  21. Too bad! Just when I was hoping they would tie.
  22. Thankfully Braga is missing a bunch of scoring opportunities also. Still 1-0.
  23. A couple of good changes for AEK - couldn’t score (67’).
