About This Club

For those that love the instrument. Music references, and resources that help with playing guitar.

  1. What's new in this club
  2. I'm adding a Greek-Cypriot to this list of guitar players. His name is Alexis Kasinos and he's a young jazz player. More info at his website here.
  3. The Elk plays like butter....really soft and easy touch. The stock pickups, while not suited for digital effects, sound quite good when played clean.
  4. That Elk looks like a beauty! How does she play?
  5. Another Greek born, Greek-Canadian jazz guitarist is Strat Andriotis. From his bio page: "After listening to bands like Cream and Jimi Hendrix Experience Strat fell in love with the guitar. " Just came across him in Jazziz magazine. More on the free style/improve, but worth a listen.
  6. Here's a Canadian born guitarist called Pavlo (full name: Pavlo Simtikidis. Big hit with Canadians. His website is here: https://www.pavlo.com/
  7. Speaking of guitarists of Greek descent, one of my favorites is Apostolis Anthimos. I have first heard of him back in 1970's when I lived in Czechoslovakia. He was one of the founding members of the Polish jazz-rock band S.B.B. You can read more about him here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostolis_Anthimos Here he is in action in 2006:
  8. Here a topic for listing guitar players of Greek descent, whether in Greece or around the world. We mentioned Johnny A. in another topic. Today I accidentally stumbled across another guy from Pittsburgh, PA. His name is Aris Paul. He's a video: The band's website is here: https://www.arispaulband.com/
  9. I also really enjoyed listening to Georges Pilali live in a few times....a very versatile guitarist if you can get past his sex drugs and rock n roll glorification....he's also pretty funny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiS5fcZrWoA&index=1&list=RDxiS5fcZrWoA
  10. I'm an Ibanez guy....in general most MIJ 70s, 80s and 90s. My three main guitars are:
  11. Hi guys. I'm new to the forum....football and guitar on the same greek themed forum....what more can one ask for. I don't really have a top 10 (too many to chose from)....but how about guitar combos. Robert Fripp and Adrien Belew from King Crimson are 2 of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RagQioUAwzs
  12. Sounds interesting. I'll have to check out some of his music. Speaking of Greek guitarists, my favorite one is Giannis Spathas, who formed the group Socrates Drank the Conium. These days at age 67 he is performing in Athens clubs with Blue Airways. I remember seeing him in Chicago in 1994 as a guitarist in the Mikis Theodorakis orchestra at Auditorium Theater.
  13. Good list of guys there! I don't think I can narrow my choices down to ten. So many great guitarists, so many different styles. But I would definitely put Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Bireli Lagrene, Al DiMeola, Peter Green somewhere in the top And I'm still discovering more. Just two days ago I came across Johnny Antonopoulos - better known as Johnny A. Very interesting fellow.... I'm looking more into him... Here's a sample with an interpretation of a Jimi Hendrix song.
  14. My Top 10 guitar players at the moment: Jimi Hendrix Frank Zappa Steve Vai Ritchie Blackmore Wes Montgomery Buddy Guy Jeff Beck Paco de Lucia Albert Collins Dickie Betts
  15. As guitar players go, I'm sure each one of us has a favorite instrument. Whether it's some Fender old time classic, or a newer model of some unknown manufacturer, let's start talking about what makes us happy. For my part, some of my favorite guitars are the Samick Greg Bennett semi-hollow and hollowbody guitars. I love the LaSalle series. Also love the Royale series (shown below).
